On the AMG private lounge chat a few weeks ago they said the next C AMG will not be getting a DCT.

Really?

Who said it? Vetter?

F80 M3 is looking better and better.

Inexcusable to have DCT in the CLA and not the C.

The DCT in the CLA can handle the lower torque. The DCT can't take the bigger push coming from the C63 or the E or CLS or S.

Fact of the matter is, that in 90% of street driving conditions the MCT is a better and smoother tranny. In the other 10%, they let the HP and Torque take care of whoever is pulling beside.

Ask any stock M3 with a DCT....he may shift quicker, but it won't matter when he's 3 cars behind

The trans in the 63 is quite capable. I vary rarely use the manual mode in my S5

Didn't the SLS have the DCT?

I didn't click on the Autocar link.

I was looking at the date under the picture (and I did read the text).

No worries though.

Yes. But it was in a $180,000 sports car. Can the dct be put into a c class? Of course. But how much are you willing to pay to get it???

There are so many other cars out there that have DCT that are no where near as expensive as the SLS.

Such a shame that the next-gen C63 won't be getting a DCT. IMO the MCT in the facelift C63 isn't even that great. It has some of that laggy-jerky feeling when moving from a standstill unlike the pre-facelift C63 transmission which is very smooth. If the next-gen C63 has a DCT I will definitely consider it, otherwise BMW and Audi have my attention. The worst part is that they probably won't fix the fact that you can't "double-downshift" in the C63.

Well . . . again, it's in the CLA.

And BMW seemed to have no trouble equipping the new F80 M3 with one.

I don't see why it's so much to ask for the DCT?

The MCT is fine but it's just not as quick, nor as aggressive as a true DCT.

Sorry but the DCT CAN handle the torque. Plenty of examples of tuned BMW DCT N54 engined cars running 11.xx down the quarter on DCT with 450+tq to the WHEELS...

And this is on a stock standard DCT box. There is one guy with over 400+ launches on his 335is with original DCT. Has never had any DCT slippage. I am sure AMG Benz could develop an even stronger DCT if needed.

Driving my Benz + BMW back to back - I have to say that DCT is much superior and gives a more pleasurable driving experience.

IF the new C63 doesn't come out with a DCT then I am certain what ever box they use will be just as responsive. The new auto 8 speed BMW boxes are a good example.

Again, my point was that the DCT in the CLA cannot handle the torque

Even if the CLA transmission can handle the torque it won't work in a C class. The transmission is designed for transverse engine layouts (fwd cars). Mercedes doesn't have a dual clutch transmission for longitudinal engine layouts yet, with the exception of the SLS, which is an outsourced unit from Getrag.

No DCT isn't a deal breaker for me(if rumors are true) but no AWD would be. Perhaps they'll change the tranny out in a few years during refresh. After all MCT has only been in the C63 since the 2012 model year.

That's most likely what will happen. The new line of MB transmissions for RWD cars is going into full production in 2016, which means the new E will be the first to get it, as the new E is scheduled for late 2016, MY2017. The new C is arriving late 2014 (MY2015) which means that the refresh is scheduled for late 2018 (MY2019), and would be a good time to get the new transmissions.

The only bit of info I can't find is what that new 2016 transmission is, if it's the new 9G transmission, which is already out in limited numbers in the E350 Bluetec, or a new dual clutch. There's tons of references to a new 2016 transmission for RWD/AWD cars in Daimler press releases.

So no DCT...and no word on whether or not this will be 4matic. I have to assume it will be as all other AMG models in the US are migrating to the platform. I can't stand these slow leaks of information.

It'll be a while before we get full details. I'll be surprised if the AMG version is unveiled in Detroit in 3 weeks, most likely, the new AMG C will be unveiled in NY in April. That's a PL night you'd want to get to.

Im sorry but you have no idea what you are talking about.

N54 cars = Twin Turbo (first gen 335 engines) NEVER CAME WITH DCT. only Manual and Auto.

N55 cars = Single turbo (Second gen 335 engines) NEVER CAME WITH DCT.

Only BMW cars that came with DCT transmission are the M's.

You are 100% correct, DCT transmissions are notoriously fickle about tremendous amounts of torque. I can understands MB's dilemma. AMG division builds torque monsters, the reliability of the DCT under tremendous torque loads may be suspect.

Can you imagine paying to change out the DCT syncrhros everything they mess up! big time $$$...

Indeed. I went in 2012 when they unvieled the Black Series and it was amazing.
