For importing into the U.S., I believe the car will have a small amount of duty (2.5% according to the U.S. customs site below, but there is a personal exemption of $800, check the site) and you are responsible for local taxes when you register / plate. Essentially, you check if the car is EPA, DOT etc. compliant, which it should be and I will confirm that; you tell customs beforehand you are bringing the car in, and contact your DMV / RMV for plates, etc.; then you show up at the border (make sure car is clean and not full of your stuff) with the bill of lading (if applicable) and bill of sale plus my registration (which I sign over to you) and then you clear the car and are off on your way.
