C63 or M4?
My question for those who own the C63, is the 507 edition worth getting for the price or our you happy without it. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
That said, the F80 M3 is going to be an entirely different animal because of the new turbocharged motor.
I previously had a 2013 F30 M Sport 335i (RWD) with every single M Performance Part (exhaust, Brembo brakes, power kit, etc.). Although that car had plenty of power, the C63 is in a league/class of its own.
The N55 motor ran out of breath at the top end. And although BMW's inline-six engines sound incredible, the note they produce can't really compete with the symphony that emanates from the C63's M156.
I chose the C63 over waiting for the new F80 M3 because turbocharged engines are a dime-a-dozen these days. I didn't want to miss out on owning one of the last great fairly high-revving, naturally aspirated, large displacement V8 motors.
Hope that helps.
If you were a person who tracked a car on occasion then it could be a different story but if you're talking about a car that will bring a smile to your face the c63 is the way to go.
FWIW I just got rid of my 135i which would beat my c63 around the track without really breaking a sweat. However, I labeled the 1 series as my DD and for some silly reason I just found myself always driving the c63 anyway. So I got rid of the BMW for an rs4 which was a good move for the winter time.
Good luck

I'm on my third C63 and absolutely love it/them. The car accepts tunes very easily and you can achieve higher numbers than the 507 puts out with a simple tune. Also, there are many other mods that enhance this car and the joy of owning it. Even when I'm not getting ready to go somewhere, I often think about my C63. I am a real car guy, but have never experienced an attachment quite like with this car.
I've had an M3. The layout and design in the C63 is much easier and user friendly. Simple, but has all the necessities that you could possibly want. The feel of the M156 engine is a joy every time I drive my car. I just can't get over the power and sound. It is a beast!!!!
Good luck with your decision.

Nod goes to the C63 in every other aspect too...
Be realistic for what you will use the car for. DD? C63 without a doubt. That torque puts a smile on your face anytime you hit the gas. Sound is amazing... better sounding then many aftermaket exhaust systems.
And the steering feedback is better than the current M3... the M4's electric steering wont give you that feel.

BMW has to nail the new M3/M4 or their long standing performance cred is in trouble IMO... I'm sure they'll sell a ton of them either way but doesn't mean it will be a better car than the E9x. The rumblings on M3post for years has been that the letter M now stands for Marketing vs Motorsport... especially with things like the X5M/X6M.
Looking forward to driving the new M3 sedan when it hits the roads but at this point I'd look at a P-car or Jag F-Type before going back to BMW.
The only time I've jumped on a brand new model, a brand new '12 BMW F30 M Sport 335i, it turned out to be a lemon. Nothing, I mean nothing, worked on that rusty (yes, literally) hunk of crap.
Also, consider all the problems (headbolt) that come to mind with the '08 C63s.
I like to wait a few years (until the LCI model comes out, for example) until I pull the trigger on a new model. Maybe I'm conservative but I just want to give manufacturers time to work the kinks out.
Go with the C63...the M Division is more track-oriented anyways.
Of course the 507 looks a little bit better with the BS hood and all but you'll be fine without it imo. Can't go wrong either way!
I would have to do what I did when I bought my C63. Back to back test drives.
There is a BMW & Mercedes dealership about 1 mile apart where I live (Rt 17 in Ramsey NJ area). I did multiple back to back test drives of the two cars and the C63 just felt better overall. The sound and the torquey feel, along with a very raw sporty steering feel jumped out at me. The M3 wasn't very torquey, so it felt slow. It's exhaust note is too quiet... and the chassis felt more balanced, but I liked the steering "feedback" of the C63 better.
When the M4 comes out, I would have to do the same "back to back" test drive to see what happens.
I'm guessing it will be very much the same. The M4 will have better chassis feel and balance... and that will be it.
A V6 Turbo will not sound anything like the muscle V8. Its getting electric steering so thats a negative too. Its a bit more powerful but it's still not as much power as the C63.
So I think its quite simple. What "looks" better to you - can't discount looks. It's important.
And what would you rather have?
C63 - More Power & Great Steering Feedback & Decent Chassis Balance
or
M4 - Less Power & Steering Feedback (to be determined, electric) & Great Chassis Balance
To me the C63 still has more pro's vs. con's. C63 still wins - but I'd like to drive the M4 when it makes touch down.

That said from what I've seen so far the next gen M3/M4 looks pretty awesome... better than the C63 to me anyways. Will be interesting to see how they are priced and what the real world performance is like.
You'll still get more power and torque with a C63 507, but the power to weight ratio and torque to weight ratio is actually very similar. You'll get a much better gearbox in the M4, and better infotainment system. You'll get much, much better fuel consumption. And you won't have a car that is going to be replaced next year...
I still love the C63 for its engine (the last of the breed), its craziness and also for the fact that it's much cheaper than an M3 or the upcoming M4 at the moment (at least in Canada)
