2012 Steering Wheel - Buttons and Paddles Not Working

I installed my new 2012 steering wheel yesterday and the buttons and paddles don't work.
I don't get any error on the dash.

Now, I remember that Adrian had a problem when installing his C63 steering wheel in his new CLS63 - the problems where the same.
https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...ing-wheel.html

I have a feeling that the steering wheel I bought is a CLS steering wheel and not a c63 one.
Does anyone know how I can check this? I took the whole steering wheel apart and i can't find the damn part number.

Thx in advance

I also think it could be the CLS wheel.

I have never seen a stitched airbag cover on a '12+ C63.

The OEM leather stitched airbag was bought separately in Germany.

I believe they're all the same steering wheel but it need to be programmed by STAR

I like the leather stitched airbag. Is it a whole airbag or just airbag cover replacement ?

I don't want to reprogram the car for the steering wheel to work because I know it should work plug&play.

I'll send you a PM about the leather airbag. I have too extra ones for sale

Hey what have you done with your OEM wheel?
By the way did you change your steering column?

My carbon steering wheel is sitting the garage as backup for now.

I haven't changed the column because it is only needed to get the buttons lit.
I don't need that so I just wanted to refresh the interior with a new steering wheel but with buttons and paddles that work...

Indeed you need to change the column for the buttons to lit up but it is strange that even the paddles don't work !!
You sure you reconnected everything correctly ? As far as I remember you have one wire for the buttons and another wire for the paddles.

Abcut, I will let you know when I'll decide to sell it

All of the plugs are connected properly. Everyting should work, so my only solution is to find out whether the steering wheel came from a C63 or a CLS63.
But I don't know where to find the part number

No problem Matt.
I remember a member had the issue with the paddlles and it turned out to be the connection ends that were swapped on the wheel. Did you check that already?

No this is not the case.
The paddles came with the steering wheel so they are from a 2012 as well.

I'm going to bump this -- I just installed a new wheel myself, and I can't figure out why the paddles and buttons aren't working.

Anyone have some insight? I can't think of a reason it shouldn't work without a different steering column.

The steering column shouldn't influence anything however the steering column module at the front of the column could. What vehicle did the wheel come from?

Just a thought. Don't all major parts start with an Axxx as in A204? The PN on the wheel should tell you where it came from.

That's what I thought too. I'm not sure what exact car it came from. Either another W204 or a CLS most likely.

Well for some reason, some parts on these wheels even when equipped with on a w204, still say A172 on them...

Long story short, ended up swapping the chip and all works. Great DIY found here:

A172 suggest to me it came off a second generation SLK.

It very well could have, but I just checked my WIS, and they actually have a section that lists "AMG Wheel Retrofit". That wheel and airbag begins with an A172 Take a look:

As always the devil is in the details. It says model 204.2 which I am guessing is FL with option codes 238, 476, 442 and 803 (2013). From this I conclude that all factors have to be present. Just a guess but we know all cars are not created equal when it comes to MB.
