AMG Differential VS Quaife
So my car came with a factory LSD the 40% locking one, however the previous owner swapped it out for a quaife diff..
He stated the car would get sideways from burnouts or rolling burnouts and that the quaife helped to orient the car in a straight line..
Im considering putting it back to the AMG diff as I havent heard anyone make the same complaint and the stock diff is a plate version which also has some locking action under deceleration to stabilze it, wheras the quaife stays open..
Also Ive had the quaife before and was not happy when one wheel got on a slippery surface or I got wheel hop essentially turning it into an open diff momentarily...
Has anyone else had any negative experiences with the factory LSD and swapped it out?
I also noticed Renntech has a diff but im assuming its more oriented for the drag strip than road track, and I dont goto the drag.. ill call them tomorrow for some more details..

I have factory LSD, and have been happy with it.
Though, i will say, on tight turns at low speed, the rear does hop. Can feel the rear "shuddering" slightly.
If you didint know it had an LSD, one would think something is wrong with the car.

Mine has the LSD (well atleast I think) and I think its flippen amazing! Such a manageable car, comparing it to the CLK63.
I've never been in a C63 with a Quaiffe diff, but I have absolutely no issues with the std LSD....although I haven't done burnouts and stuff

I have had both diffs (Quaife and OEM LSD...and the OEM open diff for that matter) and I could not tell the difference between the two LSD diffs, but the difference between either LSD and an open diff is night and day.

'09 C63, '06 Evo 9 RS
Has anyone driven a Quaife when one wheel is on ice? I've read that it doesn't lock on zero load situations so I'm leaning towards Wavetrac. Im not tracking the car so I'm not bouncing off gators but I am concerned about the torque bias/lock up when there is a big traction difference between the 2 wheels. Either way I'm sure it would be night and day difference for me since Im coming from an open diff.

My C63 has factory LSD and it's been great. However I've used quaife in other applications before trying wavetrac in early 2010 and there's no comparison. I've been personally using and reccomending the Wavetrac and unlike the quaif I've seen zero failures over the last four years even in racing applications.

I have changed my stock LSD to Wavetrack ( because at slippery road at +1'. , 0' , I find that one wheel can spin faster than another one, and it annoyed me when I was trying to start ), but I will present my feelings later , because now service is installing it.

The Wavetrac is your best bet for the price, the Quaife doesn't function as well and costs more. Other then that you can do OS Giken for around 3x the price but then you have to worry about clutch packs wearing and needing to be replaced, the Wavetrac functions almost as good but will last much longer

I've just finished installing the wavetrac LSD. I am not a mechanic, just an average user with a few tools, took about 2 hours to pull the diff out, about 12 bolts (4 on the driveshaft, 3 on the diff, 4 on the suspension on only one side and 1 for the exhaust) took less than 2 hours to put back together. I did order the bearing just so I was sure not to take it apart. I however had the gear put by a specialized shop.
Just after we made sure it was working properly and ran the tire up until blowout.
On a other note it was night and day in the driving, it feel the car is pulling forward at the end of the curve instead of sideways. When it finally goes sideways it's without surprise and smoothly. It feels like when traction is restore it wont kick and shift from left to right!
I am very pleased with the purchase and the result!! Being able to do the job myself is very satisfying!!
