Dear need2speed
I believe that Mercedes corporate has to approve each sale of the parts needed for the upgrade.

Get it from oediscountparts and have them ship it to your relative in the US. That would also be cheaper, I assume.?

I got this done package 44o , basically Black series cooling system , oil fan gets removed and bigger vents get put on. cost me about 2700 . New wheel well, lines , oil coolers, vents , ducting, etc. Also done at a AMG Mercedes place so wartrenty stays intack. And it works. No more limp mode or oil heating too much

Of interest to Canadian owners
I've ordered the cooling package from my local M-B dealer which is also AMG Performance Center. They have already done one 44O installation. The price converted to USD came in at just over $2100 all-in. IMHO there is no reason to avoid the dealer!

prior to fix oil temp was running like around 220ish maybe a little less , but on track days it would get up to LImp mode which I think is around 280 degrees F... It would do fine but as soon as it started to hit 270 it wasn't far behind that buy the next corner limp mode was sure to happen. With the upgrade it adds extra oil as well, like 11 quarts total.. and temps for everyday driving is about 217ish and Ive hit track days hard this time and has yet to go into limp mode/ no matter how hard I drive it hovers around 258 to 261 and cools right back down. But never a limp mode agter the oil package being done.

Wobble64, I have to thank YOU for this Post, After read the entire post, and also before been reading about the LIMP MODE, 'cause no clue at all why after 3 laps I was getting kicked out from M mode, finally I got the answer. Looking forward in order the cooling package, again thanks a lot
Colin,
respect for doing this on your own - that is quite a large project to install it by yourself. Well done!! And I am very pleased to see that my write-up was useful - including the tip to work through Tracy. Her heart is definitely in the right spot - she likes to help us enthusiasts out.
The oil cooling upgrade requires no software change at all. The thermostat is taking care of it all - and now it has more cooling capacity to work with.
Regarding differential cooling - the finned heatsink approach works just fine for street driving and typical short track day runs of no more than 30 minutes. I had no issues with overheated diff oil even after a scorching day at NCM in July. Just follow this:

Glad you enjoyed your first track day! First track day and then all day rain was not good luck! But you are right, you would not have seen any issues with brakes or limp mode under those conditions.
Hope you will go again soon and catch a dry day next time.

Has anyone successfully put the 440 package on a pre-FL car? I know it was built with the FL cars in mind and I know dads put the BS coolers on his car. Can anyone tell me if the 440 package would fit a pre-FL car? I'm seeing 265F for oil temp on 60F days which is uncomfortably high to me.

I also thought about just removing the fan. But after looking at how restrictive the air ducting is in front of and behind the oil cooler that it would not do the trick. Also, having the engine oil, trans oil, and coolant radiators sandwiched together in series will not provide enough cooling. The kit solves this issue. The complete 44O kit just barely solves the track overheating problem. I have done several track days with it installed, and see oil temps around 250 degrees F. This is acceptable, but any higher would not be. Also, when driven hard on the track with the kit, the trans shifted from M to S+ only one time after several track days. This means that the trans temps are cooler, but can in rare conditions hit the temp limit. I have the revised trans s/w installed with the higher temp threshold. So, in my experience, the complete kit is needed to solve the problem on the track.

I agree, I have seen 258 oil temp on an extremely hot day once. However, that is still about 40 degrees cooler than the air dam plate setup only

Sorry to bring back such an old post guys, but the car will be getting a new front bumper this week due to a small accident and figured now is the best time to get this done. Wanted to get the final answers on what part numbers exactly need to be ordered, best place to get the parts, and anything i need to be aware of with the install.
Just found out the bumper is being replaced and have to order everything tomorrow, so its very short notice, and don't want to screw it up.
Thanks for your help in advance.
