FYI not that it matters but that's just part of the engine cover...

No. When I bought mine, it had a small crack in it. I am slowly fixing any issues that came along with my used car.
I just swapped out my entire center console due to scratches in it. Just like things in nice condition.

They all tend to crack over time.
People removing them carelessly + the fact they are brittle from the constant heat.

I mean though, if it doesnt have any current cracks (2nd hand one), as long as its treated well, it shouldn't crack.

it just because of the heat, they get brittle, and then removing them has to be done carefully.

Though, there isnt much need to remove them anyway. Power steering is the only item underneath that, that needs attention (from memory).

Oil changed etc, dont need to remove cover.

Actually it is in the way of removing the oil filter. I have had to take it off recently to install the row's but for the most part it would only come off once or twice a year for oil changes. I only gather about 3500 miles per year on it so it won't be bad.

The piece brand new is only $120 from GetMercedesParts.com. I just figured if someone had one they wouldn't mind offloading I would head this direction first as I always do. If I can't snag one here I will just buy new and probably will anyway due to the info AMG893 has just given me.

I got you man. Well good luck in your search. Try the classify section to see if you have any luck. Otherwise it is worth buying it new.

AMG893,

Thanks for the shout-out!

Autosport7,

As other members have pointed out, you may want to buy this component new. Over time, all of the heating and cooling cycles this part is exposed to will make it quite brittle. Since this part is removed every time you change the oil in order to gain access to the oil filter, it is quite commonly broken.

Once you replace it, be very careful during removal and installation in order to prevent it from breaking again.

We do have this cover available on our site for $119.97* plus shipping. If you are interested, you can get to it by clicking HERE, or by clicking on the photos below.

If there is anything else I can help out with, please feel free to post or send a PM!

*Price subject to change.

There was a poster looking for just the star off of that cover within the past week. If you get a new one perhaps you can sell you old star for a few bucks.

rediesel,

I remember the thread you are talking about. I posted the engine cover there as well, since the star is not available as an individual part.

Here is the thread:
