Using space saver rim and tyre at the drags

Who had actually done this?
Did you notice any difficulties at high speed?
Did you use the factory tyre or replace it with a normal high speed tyre?

Thanks
H

I was actually looking this up as well. I would replace the factor tire with something rated for more speed. I use to do this with my Mustang that was running in the 10's @136MPH

The idea behind a skinny is less weight. Pretty sure that spare is quite heavy.

I realize you will save some rolling resistance, but I think weight is the big thing.

You will 100% want to run a tire rated for speed with that, the factory donut is not rated for high speeds.

Do yourself and fellow racers a favor, get a proper tire for it or stay off the track, last thing someone needs is a guy plowing into their door at 100mph.

The space saver spare w/ rubber is 31lbs, which is 20lbs less than the stock 18s w/ rubber (50lbs).

Good weight saving there but you will need proper front rubber.

Also, might be an idea to remove the stickers and plastidip the wheels to look like proper front runners as ANDRA rules have banned the use of space savers for drag racing.

I have wanted to do this for a while but I am still unsure of how good an idea it is.

Bad idea. There is more et/mph to be gained from rear traction, launch technique, and driver imho.

**** 20lbs less, that is pretty damn good, I thought it was heavy.

I'd give that a whirl with a proper tire.

Just get CCW skinnies and tires rated for that speed.

Are you going to get down the track? Yes.

Are the gains of saving 20lbs worth the risk of losing a front tire at 120mph on a track? No thanks.
