Paranoid New C63 owner, when to worry about engine ticking?
Picked up my new to me 2010 C63 P30 last week and today I noticed something I hadn't noticed before...ticking from the intake manifold.
Car has a hair over 36k mi and was supposedly serviced by mercedes at 35k
So I let it warm up about 5min till the oil temp stopped flashing (about 185F) and it still ticked, drove it down the way to the store to pickup a few things gave it a good run through gears pull into the garage and still ticking (oil around 250f)
I did search and have found some varying opinions on the ticking across different AMG lines
Is this just a normal thing? or should I take it for service?
It's not overload loud but noticeable with the hood up, I've got warranty left from the factory so i'd rather catch anything now if i can.
I can post a video later if it helps.

Mine does it sometimes, could be low oil level, exhaust leak etc... Mine normally goes away once my mechanic picks it up and gets it to his shop, I mostly ignore it if the oil level is good now.

Check the oil level, these beauties drink oil like I drink water. I get some lite ticking and have to add about half a quart every 1k miles or so.
But if it is extreme and your oil level is fine I would get it to the dealer especially with warranty.

Yeah oil level seemed ok but a lil darker than I'd expect from synthetic I guess I'll give it a few days and check again

I've heard ticking on my 2010 and even on my new 507, so I don't know what to tell you. i've read plenty of posts about "light ticking" and that's exactly what mine is. It is ever so faint and I usually only hear it when leaving my garage and the sound has the ability to bounce of the floor and walls and my other car parked right next to it. Generally goes away by the time I pull in somewhere or park after leaving my garage.
I wouldn't worry about it. However if the car is new to you and warranty left, I'd take it in anyway just to try and address the issue and so that they can give it a once over for you. PS- my oil temp doesn't get near 250. not trying to alarm you, as i think others have reported temp that high.
Just a thought. Let them put their hands on it

Thanks for the info, I actually only hear this with the hood up so its likely nothing ....oil temp was probably due to 102f outside and I may have driven a little hard in M to get its juices flowin
I need to call to get a second key anyway so I might as well have them take a look and tell me I'm crazy

now im wondering if i'm mis-remembering the temp, that or my cars about to blowup. I'm definitely going to keep a keen eye on that oil temp.

My guess is I saw 205 or 215 earlier and misread as 250 but still 221 seems slightly high, I'll check the oil this weekend after it's sat a couple days

Okay, I'm chiming back in. you are good man. I was trying not to alarm you when I brought it to your attention. The fact that I thought 250 was high and I've never seen mine even close to that. Glad it was human error in your mind that did it.
All being said, I'd still give it a once over in the shop while it's fresh to you and the warranty is still valid.

I would still let them look it over but those temps seem right in line with what you should be seeing.....glad it was just a misread because if it WAS 250° you'd have ISSUES!

Yeah the cigarette lighter seems to be amiss because the radardetecter won't power from it so I might as well get that fixed too, along with having them add another key
I'm still going to let it sit and check the oil again to make sure it's not low, the tick bothered me because our mustang doesn't make any noise (at least not from the engine but everything else pop and creaks)

I took my 2012 C63 P31 in recently. Under warranty. They could not hear any ticking on cold start ups. Even though I know it would come up once in a while when I would start the car.
There are two tickings you should know about. One from the engine bay and one from underneath the car in the back. Where the exhaust is.
The shop foreman at MB said the ticking from the back is due to the exhaust expanding and contracting after use. Which checks out because I only hear it when I come back from a drive and park her in the garage.
As for the engine ticking, it's a hit or miss. I know i heard it but they never did. The foreman said its common in the M156 and to just keep an eye on oil level. Mine was a bit on the lower side so they topped it up for me for free.
Havn't heard it since.
Best of luck.

Car sat today, checked oil and it's between the middle and top red tabs right in the middle so oil level should be fine, I'm choking it up to likely just being a big ole power machine that might have some tapping from lifters
When I take it in for the cigg light socket issue I've got ill mention it but I'm not expecting much, mechanics never hear the noises

I live in florida and my oil temps after doing repeated runs has never hit 250. The highest it's ever hit was 240 and that was in 105 with huminty and back to back runs to 140. I would get your oil changed it doesn't sound like it has been changed with temps that high over a few gear pulls.

Newbie as well here with a 2010 and I have ticking for a little while and gone after a few minutes but as I live in an apartment complex whereby I park 3 levels underground if you were paranoid about some of the noises and smells and heat coming off these cars then it's amplified when driven within underground walls and you wouldn't buy it as it constantly feels like its about to blow up ! On another note since I read this post I have seen the oil temp goes up in only 2 degree increments. Normal temp is 101 - 107 when in sport mode but i checked it out today from cold and never once saw an even number up to 99 where it sat and then fluctuating but looking back I know I have never seen an even 98 / 100 / 102.
