I swore up and down over the years that I'd not buy a Corvette but if a AWD mid engine ZR1 is produced I'll be eating crow... That would flip my switch.

i saw the new stingray running at the drag strip the other day. tackiest looking car i ever saw. way over designed. slow as s-h-i-t, too. i dont think either of them could break into the 12's.

Looks is very subjective. I am not crazy for the Stingray look either, but I am digging the C7Z06. The same case was for me when the C6 was released...I didn't care for the base C6, but was all over the C6Z06.
As far the Stingray being slow...that's my friend is all driving. Those cars are not slow. In fact, there are many of them running mid 9's with simple bolt-ons plus heads/cam/small shot (125hp) and tires. There are also many of them are running high 10's to looow 11's with just bolt-ons and tires. Again, its all about the individual in the driver's seat.
To your point though, I remember back in the day seeing stock C6Z's running mid to low 12's...but I knew it was all driving skills related. Because I also seem them run mid to low 11's STOCK!

and if 9 out of 10 people are slow in the z06 but as a response you just keep chalking it up to "the driver", thats just a copout. if its truely a great road car you wouldnt need to be a professional driver to get decent performance from it.
thats always the excuse that has to be made for the corvette ... oh it was the "Driver"...
give me a break. a car you always have to make excuses for isnt much of a car.

Traded my 2006 Vette for my 2011 C63. Both are great cars, just needed a 4 door. And I ran 12 flats in my 2006 Vette at 1250 feet of altitude, it was a very easy car to run in the 1/4 mile.

The base vette is faster than the m4 and 911S around the track
7 sec around VIR
6 sec on the 911S and by 4 on a 2011 911 turbo S and a 2009 gtr
In fact faster than the old z06 by 5 sec
And the R8 V10 plus by 4
And 5 sec faster than a 2013 m5
Hardly slow

especially when it comes to american cars and their reported performance stats - there always over exaggerated compared to what real world end users achieve.
i giving real world first hand observations of corvettes that i saw run at the drag strip and theyre in a word, unimpressive. im not talking about 1 run from 1 corvette, im talking about multiple consecutive runs with multiple drivers.
