Looking at 2015 C63 AMG Coupe
New guy here and new to the world of MB. I actually have an order in on a new Hellcat Challenger since October (its in a hold as my dealer is waiting on a allocation)...so I have had time to consider other cars as 65-68k gives me some options. I have always read that the C63 AMG was an excellent, high performance car but never got too close because up until I decided on the HC, my price range never strayed past the 40k range.
So, today I took a 2014 C63 AMG sedan for a test drive as it's the same engine in the 2015 Coupe and the only C63 AMG on the lot. I was really impressed, salesman let me open it up on I-95 and was at 110 before I knew it - it felt about 80 until I looked at the dash. Yikes. I currently drive a 2014 Camaro SS (app 430 HP) and the C63 felt like it was SC/TT compared to my SS.
I am now considering changing up from allocation jail for the hellcat and putting in my order for the 2015 C63 AMG coupe as they both are in the same price range. If I do pull the trigger, I'm looking at just the base (which comes with a lot) AMG coupe in black, with the titanium inlay 18" AMG wheels....as I need to keep this in the mid 60's.
I need to self educate and read up here but will appreciate any advice from fellow members.

Welcome to the boards! I think you will find the C63 is much more refined and less boaty then the 5000 Lb Hellcat. Both I bet are blasts to drive though. If it was me I just couldn't drop 85k on a challenger. For that money I would grab a new Z06 for a few pennies more, just my 0.02

Exactly, I had the salesman go into the system and build it with me.....and actually to call it bare bones isn't really fair as these come well optioned in the base configuration.

2015 C63 is going to have Twin turbo V8 - not the same engine as 2014 C63. So the torque delivery will not be as strong as the current NA engine. So my suggestion would be to wait until they hit the show room to test it drive it again or just grab a 2014 before they disappear for good.

The new AMG C sedan versions will have what you are describing.

Only the 2015 sedan will be a twin turbo. The 2015 coupe will still get the M156 normally aspirated 6.2.

NA engines have to rev out to make hp and tq. Most forced induction engines made after 2000 have almost peak tq off idle. Just the nature of most NA vs forced induction motors.

its marketing. paying homage to the original amg heritage 6.3 . Atleast its close to 6.3 . The new biturbo v8's are 5.5L, new c63/amg gt are 4.0L. amg 65's are 6.0L . dont worry the .1L less wont hurt performance

Thanks - the only reason why I posted 6.3 is that everything I can find to read up on the 2015 has MBUSA identifying it as 6.3

There was some info here about German laws requiring motor companies to round up when advertizing. True or not I can't say.
Take a look at this thread. Particularly the #6 posting.

Regardless, it's a great engine and one that will go down in history as such.

Welcome, C63 is definitely the way to go. I just got a mine a month or so ago and I regret nothing about it. Only problems you'll have are never wanting to get out of it and finding stuff to do just so you can drive it again lol.

It's just marketing, I assume as others have said, it's a nod to the AMG Hammer.
If you look at Mercedes' site, every engine size listed is accurate except the C63 coupe right now.
As far as rounding well, far as I know rounding is rounding no matter what country you're from. 6208cc is 6.2L, not 6.3L. MB drives me nuts with their naming. I guess it all started with the 55 AMG's(or the V12's)

Regarding the 6.2 vs 6.3 debate, as far as I know if it is 6.201 or more, you round up. That along with Mercedes wanting to keep that nominal 63 label for their V8s, just like they do the 65 for the V12s, despite them not being 6.5 liters.

Correct...the German registration fees are based on HP and size of Engine. So when registering the vehicle it is considered 6.3 by the government (because 6.2000000001 is more than 6.2) and they can charge more. Lots of taxes in Germany. But they don't have to pay for college and medical care is a LOT cheaper .
