From the FB comments it seems the girl survived with a broken hand and two broken vertebrae. She was in a coma and is now recovering.

She will probably have lifelong trauma but at least she survived.

... it can't happen to people who don't drive like morons. You won't catch me blind merging across 2 lanes, between semis, into an exit lane. Total idiot. Good lesson, but it really is sad just how bad so many drivers are. And then they end up paying the price...

I have NO tolerance for moron drivers. Of course the kids school bag bit is sad, but tens of thousands of folks here in the good ole US of A die each year due to moronic driving. And it's largely due to folks not knowing how to drive, not caring, being stupid, not paying attention, and not realizing what can happen. Folks need better driver training, period. They need awareness. We love our cars (I love my cars), and we love to ignore how dangerous they are. Apparently, the driver lived, which is frigging amazing considering she wrecked into the back of that semi and then got slammed by the other with the camera. And more informed, better drivers, means fewer dead people and fewer dead kids.

I guess I am a bit harsh...

This actually contains one of my pet peeves.

If you tailgate a vehicle larger than yours (blocks you view), then changing lanes to the right is problematic because you cannot see the lane in a left-side steering car.

People just don't get that. They don't notice when they can't see, so to speak. It is always difficult to know what you don't know, right?


Bit of a truckfest/elephant race going on there, I can see where an inexperienced driver who doesn't have the sense yet to rather miss the exit gets into trouble.
