Differential bearings

Hey guys,

I'm about to install a Wavetrac LSD on my car but I can't seem to find the part number for the diff bearings. Can anyone tell me where I can order these?

Assuing you mean OEM parts:

parts.com, mbonlineparts, etc.

Post your VIN and I'll give you part numbers.

Regards,

Joe

Doesn't have to be OEM since I know that mercedes doesn't actually sell the bearings by itself. My VIN# is WDDGF77XX8F163343. If you could help me get the part numbers for these, that would be great.

Thanks for the info. Are they different bearings on each side?

It's showing those bearings belong to the 55 AMG cars. I'm assuming they use the same type...

The parts above are for model 211 vehicles. When I plug in the VIN, there are no bearings referenced as part of the differential housing or axles. So I'm assuming the housing is sold with bearings installed.

Correct. Mercedes sells the differential as a complete unit, only thing available separately are the axle seals.

So i'm a little confused. Do the parts posted by abcut fit on the C63's diff? If so, do they also come with the inner races or is that a different part #?

Inner races are included with the bearings, I have the bearings with exact same part numbers on my tool box waiting to get installed.

Just closing the loop here - were the part numbers mentioned above correct and all that you needed? About to embark on the same install.

Thanks,
Tom

Yes above part numbers for the bearings are correct. Note that they are different part numbers, left and right side. You might also need to grind some of the diff housing to get the wavetrac in.

Bearing - 230 350 03 49
Bearing - 230 350 02 49

EPC, doesn't show both clearly. The description for the 03 part is "Tapered Roller Bearing,,Ring Gear Bearing". And for the 02 part it's "Tapered Roller Bearing, Platform Side"

Hope this helps.

Finding right diff bearing for C63

I have a 2013 C63 Amg facelift. I also purchased a Wavetrac diff. Are the bearings part numbers you mentioned the same for my car? Is your car a facelift model as well? I am having a hard time finding the bearings because Mercedes doesn't sell them by themselves as you mentioned. Did they work well and are you happy with Wavetrac? Any weird noise while driving? Thanks.

The part numbers Valve referenced will work on your car, I too have a FL (MY 2012), and they are perfect. The MB part contains the tapered roller bearings made by Timken in France/Poland, and the bearing cup. It is tough to find the bearings by themselves, and unfortunately, I dont have the Timken part numbers. These bearings and cups are different sizes depending on which side of the differential you are installing it on, as aforementioned.

Thanks for the reply. So I need to find a Timken bearing distributor in Europe and give these 2 part numbers as a reference? Bearing - 230 350 03 49 and 230 350 02 49? How did you get yours? My car is sitting at the shop just waiting to for it :-(.

No, those are MB part numbers for the differential bearings, I just provided greater detail. These tapered roller bearings are very robust and built to last usu the life of the vehicle, but many replace with new when upgrading diffs. All you need to do is order the 2 part numbers, and I recommend going through oediscountparts.com and submitting your VIN, that way you can ensure proper fitment. Tracy Lehrke at oediscountparts.com helps a few of us here on the forum source more esoteric parts, she'll help you out. I also recommend checking both differential seals, those may need replacing esp after removing old diff. They are inexpensive, ~$20 each, search forum and you will find the part numbers - both are identical and same size.
Best of luck!

When I fitted my Wavetrac I installed new bearings and seals.
I ordered the parts from my local Mercedes Benz dealer.

Hey guys I will be installing a Wavetrac as well this weekend. I have the Timken bearings, MB axle seals, gear oil, a new finned cover and heat sink. Am I missing anything to complete the job ? Any special tooling that helps or tips/ tricks ?

Thanks

You will need to grind the diff housing a little bit in order for the wavetrac to fit.

Thanks. To get to first axle out of the diff - does the axle nut have to be removed on the knuckle/hub end ? or can the suspension be unbolted and the hub assembly moved enough for the axle to slide it out of the diff ?

No need to remove an axle from the wheel hub side. Just take off the lower control arms on the subframe side. That will allow the diff to drop low enough to slide both axles out.
