C63 Oil Cooling Upgrade Track Test
https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...ing-c63-5.html
Yesterday I took the car to Mid-Ohio for a full track day (with only 18 cars, so we got in a lot of track time).
The weather was sunny, temp. around 55 - 60 F. I drove the car hard as can be seen by the fact, that I burned 1.5 tanks of fuel (average fuel consumption on track was around 3 mpg
), the brake pads are gone and need to be replaced, and the rims got so hot, that I lost several balancing weights since the adhesive melted.
However, thermal health of engine was actually amazing! The highest oil temp I saw was 232 F all day. Engine temp was 194-197 consistently and the transmission oil peaked at 210 F (monitored via OBD dongle and Torque; it is normally at around 204 F).
Conclusion:
My C63 has no thermal issues whatsoever. I am convinced that even on a 100 F day, it will be just fine, given that it did not even break a sweat and has a huge margin to the 284 F or so where limp mode kicks in. One thing to note is that I have the BS front bumper, which allows somewhat more air in than the stock C63 - that probably helps a bit.
The main limitations on the car are now, in this order: 1. The operator
, and 2. the brakes (which were still solid thermally all day, even with really thin pads).I definitely need to learn how to be more gentle and smooth to reduce wear and tear. I also learned an interesting trick to keep the tire balancing weights on (aluminum tape).
All of you who knew about the track day and did not come: You missed a great and memorable day! Only 1 other Forum member actually showed up. That was actually pretty lame.
Finally: I love the header tune from MHP. The car goes like crazy - really, really strong. Andy from MHP was there also and showed his CLA45 with close to 500 hp - I was amazed by how fast yet still very driveable it is given the small 2 liter engine. No issues with turbo lag at least when you keep it moving on the track.

What brake pads, rotors, brake fluid, and tires are you using? SS brake lines?
Just had the car up on the lift. It looks like both the diff and tranny have had small oil leaks, as if they vented some. No stains on the garage floor though, so whatever leaked, did leak yesterday and stopped.
The Engine needed no oil, it still shows half between the min and max level.
I certainly got my 'fix'.
It's also good to hear about the brakes. Sorry if I misquote here....But I think Diabolis mentioned that the MB Brake Fluid is very good compared to racing brake fluid: a very high boiling point. With the pads/rotors on the 507, multiple triple digits stops are not an issue in my experience.

No fade and pedal feel stays consistent. Thanks again for the write up. Happy motoring!

see the above quoted thread - part numbers, price etc are all there on page 4. Here is a direct link

Glad I have matte black rims though - can't see the dust.

Questions about tires - how much track time do you think you had today, what kind of tires were you running, and how much wear do you think it incurred?
I drove Yokohama Advan Neovas. 255 in front and 295 in the rear (Black Series fenders!). I probably did 150 - 200 miles on the track. My alignment seems pretty good, as there is no excessive wear inside or outside. The rears are getting close to the tread wear indicator, the fronts are maybe 30%. I had maybe 8,000 miles of mild commuting on the tires before. I think more width helps increase life.

Going to Watkins Glen with these guys Mon-Tue. They have a bunch of great events.
