broken center vent controls
so i have noticed that one of my center vents below the nav screen was stuck in the up position (pointing towards roof) and when I tried to adjust it there was 0 tension it just kept going back into pointing towards the ceiling.
the little slider feels kind of loose and a small little piece was loose and fell behind the vent and I got it out with some tweezers.
Anyone deal with this or know if its an easy fix or does the entire vent have to be replaced (which seems to be both vents as a whole unit)

i found the same diagram on OE parts and it seems like youve got to replace the entire center portion not just one vent, is that right?

are you kidding me? gdi man you've got bad luck with this car. I'll see what my cost is on this and you can compare to online price. I can pop it in, in about 5 minutes. They do come as a whole assembly. Usually it happens on older higher mileage cars, not usually the c's mostly the cls's. Atleast you finally have your car back just in time for the weather to clear up.

I had a similar problem with my wife's VW Golf but i reckon the design is similar.
It was a simple fix. I managed to pull out just the vent assembly by gently levering it at the edges and pulling the whole vent assembly from the front.
The little piece you have already fished out will be designed to clip into the control knob from behind the central horizontal louvre. There will be 2 little prongs or similar that angle backwards to clip onto the vertical louvre that controls sideways airflow.
Use one of those plastic trim removal tools to pry it from the edges, and from memory I hooked something behind the centre bit to help pull it forwards.
Hope this makes sense.

i'm betting it can be popped back without replacing the entire thing.

My center passenger side vent adjuster just cracked as well, and now same symptom. Coincidentally happened as I was exploring to add a backup camera. So, I'm going to order a new 20483041549116 for $80 when I do my backup wiring. Can anyone post up the WIS for removing the switchgear from the vent unit to swap over?
