Buy Low Mileage 2014 C63 From Carmax?
I wanted to get your opinion on purchasing from carmax a 2014 C63 sedan with 20k miles
I was going to get the car then bring to independent mechanic for inspection
I was also going to get their extended warranty that goes through 100k
What are your thoughts ?
I mainly wanted to do this because I can get a MB CPO but the warranty is less then Carmax
I appreciate your thoughts

I've never bought from carmax, but I don't think they sell junk. Plus you still have a couple years of factory warranty and can buy MB ELW. how much?

Their warranty program isn't so bad (so I hear). Carmax really isn't a bad option in my opinion. If the car is clean, checks out, and comes with the warranty to 100k why not?

Have never purchased from Carmax but I don't think I would have a problem with it.
Personally, I would take it to a local Mercedes dealership and let them perform a pre-purchase inspection and they will be able to give you the history of any maintenance performed on it at any Mercedes dealership.
You also have the option of purchasing an extended warranty through Mercedes Benz. There are a few Dealerships that will sell them at a discount, check out this post: Best Discount for MB Extended Warranty
Good luck

I purchased a CTS-V from Carmax few years ago and had no problems. It was also under warranty and had low miles. You also get a few days for a free return policy if you find something wrong with it later.

Carmax policy may not let you take the car offsite for third-party inspection. If this is critical to you, you should check with the sales guy. When I tried about 5 years ago, the Carmax here was inflexible about it. I ended up having an inspection company dispatch an employee to the Carmax site and check it out in their parking lot. It was a compromise that I wasn't very happy about.
I didn't buy the car, so can't help with any feedback on the Carmax warranty.

Carmax won't let you take it off the let, but you can bring in someone to look at it. Carmax offers a 5 day return policy, so you could close on the car then get it inspected.
2014 C63 honestly how many issues could it have? The car has maybe had two oil changes and a brake fluid flush. Bring a paint meter to confirm it hasn't been in an accident if you are paranoid.

i have purchased from Carmax and it was a painless experience but the Atlanta site(Lithia Springs) would also not let you take the vehicle from the lot for anything other than a test drive......with that being said though I'll throw this out there, Off Lease Only in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale have the LOWEST prices on most every make imaginable and they have LOTS of C63s currently......2014s with less than 10k miles for under $40k...that is impressive!!!!! I have only bought 1 car from them in the past but it was also a painless experience and they even included 1way airfare for me to fly in and drive home.

If you look on the carfax, most of those offlease C63s are from car rentals. I believe they are from Hertz rentals. Doesn't mean anything wrong with them, but thats usually why they are priced so low.

most of their cars are hit, that's why. i watch them buy cars at the auction.
if there are 5 c63's and 1 with a bad carfax, they are buying that one. trust me.

So, I have changed my mind, I think I am going to purchase a 2013 or 2014 from an independent dealer, meaning not CPO vehicle and NOT from Carmax.
I know because of the mileage I would want and year it will still have MB warranty.
However, since I don't know the dealer I am purchasing from here was my plan of action:
I live in Los Angeles...so I was going to arrange my financing ahead of time, fly to where the car is work out the deal, but tell them I would like an independent inspection done and if they say I can't do it before I purchase I will say...ok but I want to bring the car back if something comes back wrong...if they don't agree to that I will walk...however if they do agree to that, that is what I wanna do...get it inspected ..
Will MB dealership do the inspection??
Your thoughts ?

I would work out the price first, based on the car passing an inspection that you will pay for. Have them agree to drop it off at Mercedes and then you can talk to the service manager on the phone afterwards and you get a copy of report. If all is good, you fly out to pick up the car. If something not right, you can back out or rework the price. The seller will get a free inspection. I did this when I sold a car a few years ago and buyer wanted an inspection. I didn't mind because i was getting a free inspection report I could give to other buyers.

If you want a PPI then get it done before you purchase the car. I would not count on an independent dealer allowing returns. If they won't allow the car off the lot you can hire an independent inspector online to go look at it or see if Mercedes will send someone over.
Again if you are looking at a 13/14 it's really only an issue of making sure the car hasn't been in an accident.
