Power supply for hard wiring radar detector.
Hi folks.
I am trying to find an AUX power supply in the passenger dash side with out much luck. This is a RHD vehicle.
I have found high capacity always live supplies and one very low capacity AUX supply but this rendered a full 1V drop when the radar detector was operational so not an appropriate source.
Looking at running to the lights on the drivers side but TBH they look on the low current side as well. (The Max international version has an upgraded processor and does draw a fair bit of current)
I would be happy with an ON rather than AUX supply if it had a high enough capacity...
Anyone done this before with a RHD car?
Help.

It looks like my ipod connectivity is in the centre console compartment. Nothing in the glove box. I did find the redundant wiring for it with a 12V AUX supply with only .15V drop powering the Max. Thanks for the prod 893.

Where are you positioning your detector? I tap into the dome light. Perfect if you're going to keep it up at the top of the windshield.

I went into the fuse panel on the drivers side and tapped into a switched power source that is linked to the door locks, so as soon as I unlock my door, the radar detector kicks on, then auto-off after about 10 minutes of no power.

Easy and keeps it right at the top of the windshield with essentially no wire showing. Turns on with the car. Turns off with the car.

I understand this is a much cheaper way to get it done but has anyone ever used the midcity engineering dash interface kits?

Anyone got any tips for getting the A pillar trim off with out breaking the plastic clip retainer at the top. I want to make sure that if I run it that way I am not going to cross over the air-bag.

Thanks Jmueller. Did you manage to find an AUX supply up there by any chance? For sure I am going to flatten my battery with this as I never lock my car at home.

The power supplies from the light dome were not live with the cables un-plugged, only when back probed and were giving inconsistent and lower voltage readings with a load on them. It looks like they maybe running through another controller or appliance.
I ended up running this to the toll meter's power supply behind the glove-box which is an AUX on direct live feed. Also took the opportunity to sort out a couple of rattles and squeaks while down there so to speak.
