I'm not sure what is worse.... fake exhaust tips..... OR sythensized exhaust sound!
Both are fails.
Heck why not have both LOL.
It looks like there is some plastic bits inside those chrome bezels..... in any case it's a cheesy trim component, and no longer a functional exhaust part IMHO.

how is it a "fake exhaust tip" if it is not attached to the exhaust? Would you be happier if they completely hid the exhaust?
its like a push up bra, do you get upset at the girl for wearing it, or appreciate her for trying to look her best?
geesh~~~~

I don't like the fake exhaust tips either, and it seems like everybody is doing it. I think the new C-class is the worst.
But, my biggest pet peeve is these new LED door projectors on some new cars now. Just in case people around you can't tell what you are driving when you are getting out at night. It doesn't get any more pretentious than that.

Hopefully there are no gals reading my post but I think this is my ideology about AMGs.
Old AMGs are like gals who are naturally bomb shells without any plastic surgery, they get you hooked and grabs your money and you won't care as you know you just scored something magical. New AMGs are like bomb shells gals with $150k plastic surgery, they get you hooked and grabs your money but when you look closer and starts to poke around deeper you will discover the stitches that was done to hide the truth, worst yet you will find out she is not really a she but a he.

This is a funny thread.
Regarding the "fake exhaust tips" first I don't know anything about plastic tips on mercs, that sounds pretty crappy, however - When the c63 black series first came out, all I read/ heard was how amazing the exhaust looks and so many people asking how to get them, install them, cut pipes to fit in the bumper etc. and everyone was well aware that they had to cut their existing exhaust pipes to make it fit. (Not saying everyone loved them but sooo many members were loving them and I never heard any negative comments) They aren't connected, but they are chrome tips and still look awesome in my opinion.
I do love the look of the oval c63 exhaust tips too but I have no problem with the not-attached exhaust pipes to the tips on my black series. Way easier to keep clean and sparkling, no worries of melting my indoor dust car cover after tucking her in at night (happened with my previous c63). The black series exhaust note is 100% real and makes me smile everytime I start/ open her up
Cars will constantly evolve. I remember back in the day when bumpers were real, now they are no real bumpers to be found since they looked so bad. Bumpers use to protect the car. My first car was a 1980 Volvo coupé and man that thing was a tank haha. It had huge black rubber bumpers attached to the beige body, even smaller rubber strips along the sides. I could bump into a wall no problem. Now if my black series "bumped" a wall, it would cost a lot to fix haha.
I'm all for change and evolution and technology, but not for speakers simulating exhaust notes, that seems a bit weird.
In summary, everyone will have different tastes and opinions, especially online. I hope AMG Mercedes will continue to make outstanding machines for us to enjoy!

I didn't like the fake exhaust tips at first but one positive side is the tips don't get black anymore and way easier to clean.

If you guys are making a determination on which "sports car" to buy, from the placement of the gear selector. In an automatic car. Where it doesn't even matter. Or exhaust tips that don't connect to the mufflers. Then your priorities are massively screwed up.

Priorities, like a lot of other things, are a personal choice. Like w204 NYC said, this is a sports car, and when I get in it, I want to put my hand on the shifter, and not go to the steering column like my grandfather's Nova. Bad enough they have taken away the clutch from us. I don't track my car, I just want this to be a different feeling than my DD ML. I am guessing you are younger and probably have never experience the one two punch of pressing the clutch and shifting gears.

In my CLK63 the shifter could be rocked left to right to upshift or downshift, same as the paddles.
I found that to be much more natural than the paddles, most of the time, usually because my right had was already resting on the shift knob.
The SL is a better can in every way... but I still find myself wishing it had an actual knob and that I could up and down shift with the right hand.

Point of the column shift is merely safety, notice that you dont have to remove your hands from the steering wheel to change gears when parking backwards or doin a 3 point turn.

You are obviously not a purist driver. And as far as safety goes, for years we have been pushing forward to park/reverse, and backward to get into drive. Now we have to figure out push in, up down etc. And if you must know, automakers, or at least MB, did not move the gear selector to the steering column for safety. They moved it so that there is more space in the console for cell phones, chargers, coffee mugs, packs of gum, and other essentials for our "sports cars" and non.
Why is that dumb again? Unless you reach for your gear shifter to change to reverse or park when youre racing your "sports car", then i dont see the dumbness in that. Isnt that what your paddles are for?
