Anyone mount a BS wing on their 507?
Can anyone share pictures of this set-up? I understand there were 10 "Legacy" 507 green painted vehicles delivered to South Africa; eight coupes with the Black Series wing and black rims, and two with just the lip and silver rims. I'd love so see what the wing looks like on a white 507 coupe.
Correction: according to an online article these SA models were 457hp, not the 507, but with all the same styling features. The interior plaque was also different. Anyway, done by the factory so I can't consider it an illegitimate mod (LOL, wouldn't accept b*stard).

Here's the Mode Carbon BS-style wing on a white coupe. I was contemplating the same thing not too long ago, and went in a different direction.

I don't think it looks too bad, but what horror those orange demon side markers bring is something else. Also those legacy cars...I wish they had them in the states, would be something special to see.

It is a nice piece for sure. But shocking is also right.

Does anybody know what effect this wing has? How much does it slow down the car/increase fuel consumption, how much downforce does it create and will the trunk lid stay open with the weight of the wing or do you have to hold it up constantly while you are putting stuff in?
In short, is it purely aesthetic with lots of downsides or useful?

I believe it is aesthetic. I think someone else was doing the math in the pretty recent past, and they determined that you would need a much bigger, higher, and wider wing to make any meaningful impact. I'll try to find the post/info.

Here a clean example of the installation of a functional wing. I know the car and the shop. Such a wing is typically about 65 inches wide and 13 inches deep.

Yup. That's more like it.

Thanks for the input. I certainly won't argue with real-world experience anyone may have with this wing (in fact I'd love to hear more) but it has adjustable angle of attack and is positioned high in the air flow, so appears to have some engineering behind it. With wings, not spoilers, the trade-off is drag vs grip and I'm looking for the best compromise between the two for my chosen events.

You have to remember that aero is functional if it's balanced. If you're putting a big spoiler like that in the rear, you have to have a similarly aggressive upgrade to the front. A bigger front lip or canards. I think it's functional, as long as you retain the rest of the aero pieces from the black series.

I think that wing without the rest of the aero kit and wide body is out of place. I didn't know they produced car from factory like the green ones

They built these "special edition" cars and called it the "Legacy Edition" to get rid of remaining parts and charge a premium for the cars by making this final run of the coupe body style as the new rolls in.
It's an obvious marketing ploy to sell off remaining inventory...

I've posted on the AMG Lounge requesting any factory data and hope to have a follow-up at some point.
ZephyrAMG, your comments remind me of another "legacy" or run-out model that M-B produced which today have huge collector value. I'm thinking of the 1995 E500 Limited and spin-off E60 Limited, which can bring double the price of their siblings with no additional performance content! Numbers certainly count in the value equation; only about 950 standard E500 Limiteds and 150 AMG E60 Limiteds were produced. This should bode well for the 10 South African Legacy cars (although a shame they weren't 507s). Does anyone know of other examples?

Found some data on
This snip of a 2012 test of the C63BS by the German mag Sport Auto (Google translation) shows the wing produced mild downforce. With the extra girth, the Cd was worse than a stock C63 and I'd expect an unrestricted Edition 507 could achieve a higher vMax.

Clk Dtm c63 bs u wont wanna know the rest
For the questions on the BS wing earlier on,no the rear boot stays open even with the rear spoiler and the rear spoiler has 2 different manual settings which can be adjusted (0 lift and 4 degree slight tilt if im not wrong)
It's rather pleasing to the eye though the wing.
