Once again.............talking about brand dilution!!!
So, all cars with the 'AMG Sport' package will now be branded and badged 'AMG'. What has been going on at MB and/or MBUSA?? "AMG: One man, one machine", not anymore. I think that it's pretty sad, across all models, not just our beloved C63's.
It's not a poser thing with me. It's not a, "I worked hard to my AMG"(which I did). It's not even a, "My car is better than your car." It's just a sad thing to see an institution and something semi-rare to be dragged down by it's own company. To loose something special in the name of a few more dollars, probably more US dollars than any. We are loosing well-made, individuality inclined, and proper businesses and products more and more. It was just really uninspiring and a little sour to read this.

Yep! That is the big subject over the PL!
We already saw it coming when they introduced the slc43. Nothing we can do about it. Even Tobias Moers confirmed this is the future of AMG. I'm afraid that future does not suit me ....

Mercedes has to compete with BMW/Audi. So Mercedes "needs" an official AMG car below the C63 to compete with the BMW M2, RS3 and whatever else....not to mention the increasing number of random BMWs with M emblems (M340i anyone). AMG Sport was just the first step.
People don't want to buy a plan old C-class when they could have an "M" BMW or S/RS Audi, so Mercedes is gonna relabel the cars and slap that AMG badge on there. I don't know as though that many people won't buy an AMG because there are more diluted versions available now, but you better believe Mercedes will be able to up sell people to get the "AMG version" that's only a little more...it's all about marketing and the trunk emblem.

NO. They are not using the AMG power plants. These are just C-class 'AMG Sports', which have some AMG refinements over the regular C's, but are being badged 'AMG' and have the same engines that roll off the line. They are not hand built. And they are not from Affalterbach.

Only a short time ago someone telling you that the amg would have a run of the mill v6 in it would be laughed at... As with the notion that the numerical badging no longer meant anything..
The 45 has a 2.0 and the 43 a 3.0 ?

Am I missing something? What does the C43 have to do with it? Sorry for not knowing, probably cause I was too young when the W202 C43 came out but the new AMG sport is C450, why is C43 being brought up?

You guys think this is new????? Wat?? AMG has been doing this for like ..20 years ...do you guys not remember the AMG C36 or any of the other "AMG" models they've been making since the early 2000s? this isn't new news ..not to sure why everyones freaking out, that AMG badge has been slapped on the back for quite awhile

Lol @ this thread ..."for the posers" "for those who cant afford it" like grow up guys for real, We drive freaking C-classes for christ sake, I can't wait for the day you guys meet a S65 on the road and it completely rapes you and then you'll realize your car isn't as special as you think it is.
Maybe some people don't want to spend $20+ a day on gas or deal with expensive repairs when it happens, or maybe some people don't feel comfortable with themselves behind a 450-500hp car.

Every AMG is special,lets face it.
If we are really hard up for exclusivity maybe we should all head over to our Pagani dealer and get a Zonda or Huayra,they're part AMG too..
If a AMG is really only for the badge and not the driving experience,doesn't that makes the Black Series/DTM and Paganis the bragging right to be badge snobs over AMG owners?
Let's accept it that they are coming out with a new range,there is nothing we can do but to just accept it for what it is.
It's like the difference between M135/M235 and M1/M2 .
There's always a higher spec and lower spec model base on each.
I for one do agree that they should broaden up the AMG range therefore giving AMG more exposure to those 95% that does not even know the difference between a C180/C63.
Secondly it will widen the appeal of AMG vehicles so why not?
Do remember that before the CLA/A class,the C class wasn't widely accepted as a MB as it is a entry level vehicle which looks like a Civic stated by many
Just be glad that we own a AMG vehicle and share the joy with those lower/higher than you.

you say this same sht all the time about the c class, why the hll do you even own one? why not go buy that s65 that weighs a ton?
the issue people are taking isnt with them building cheaper amg's its about them using the amg brand on cars that arent really amg's and having handbuilt engines
