oil change drain plug

i've only driven my car ~1300 miles over the past year but unfortunately, it's time to change the oil again. i can't remember if i changed the drain plug last time, but for some reason i recall that being prescribed with each oil change. i do remember getting the wrong size washer from the dealer so when i went to do it, i had to scrounge around and luckily found one in my stash.

anyway, i thought there was a thread in here w/ the part numbers for these service items but i can't find it, at least for the drain plug.

does anyone have it handy?

thanks.

You don't have to change the plug. Only the copper crush washer.

Drain plugs for the sump and cooler are reusable. The washers are different from other benzes and your dealer can order the correct washers for your car and not give you the wrong sized one off the shelf. Asks your parts guy to look them up specifically for the C63 and order them in for you.

thanks guys. yeah, he had my VIN and i still ended up w/ the wrong one. it was way too small. i generally order my OE MB parts from a body shop down the road because they are so much closer than the dealer (10 mins vs. 45) plus the prices are better even vs. online because of shipping BUT when stuff like that happens, it sucks.

I have reused the drain plug washer lots of times as well. Smooth out the rough side a little on some emery paper. For what they cost you might as well get new ones.

this is so annoying.

i ordered a few things for the oil changes on my wife's Audi and my car. i figured the price was right i may as well throw the drain plug seals in on the order. the drain plug seals that arrived are again small! they are identical to the one the dealer gave me in my original post.

i believe i need p/n 007603-014106, which is 20x14x1.5. i'm not sure on that but i am 99% sure what i received is way small.

they sent me 007603-012106, which is 18x12x1.5

i am going to try to confirm somehow. sheesh.

here is the take off from my last oil change (can't believe i was able to find it) and the three i received. width on the bigger on is a tenth or so less than the others, which makes sense as it's used (crushed). but ID is 14mm vs. 12 on the others and OD is 20 vs. 18.

i have no idea what's going on. i bought my car with 1200 miles in 2013 and have done all of the drain oil changes. any that weren't drain were vacuum dealer changes.

As a previous poster said, it's just the washer that needs replacing - and often it comes when you buy the oil filter from parts stores.

The oil pan part is: N007603012106
The oil cooler part is: N007603012104

the washer has yet to come with any of the filters i've bought. i have bought hengst and mann (i believe). yes, i am pretty sure it comes with some, maybe the MB packaged Hengst. not sure. doesn't matter for me, unfortunately.

post #10 shows that the part number that is in the system for my car does not work with my car. #facts

i have no idea why, but it is what it is, as they say.

The oil pan gasket is 14mm X 20mm and is copper

The cooler gasket is 12mm X 18mm and is aluminum

Both are 1.5mm thick.

If you're in a pinch, and can't fathom putting a non-MB crush washer that may not be exactly the same # of microns thick...

Reuse the old one by heating it up with a torch until its nice and hot. This will return its "crushability" to live another oil change. It is after all, just another oil drain plug we're talking about here.

You can easily re-use a crush washer for a drain plug many times if you haven't over torqued it at some point. I had the original one on my 350z for probably the entire time I had it, at least 3-4 of the 6 years for sure. Probably got 12 oil changes in that time. Remember, there isn't even pressure on the oil pan, it's just oil sitting on it, it will seal just fine with a clean seal, doesn't need to be gorilla tight. Clean the plug and pan and tighten like a reasonable person, and done.
