Engine sounds supercharged?

2008 c63 with 90k km running with tune, Afe filters, secondary cat delete and resonator delete. Was wondering if everyone's 6.2 V8 engine sounds exactly like a supercharged motor??! Just curious to know if it's just mine or everyone hears what I hear? ...of course only when putting the pedal to the floor and enjoying every single gear

thanks!

Mine does the exact same thing bone stock. I think it might be a vacuum leak.

It's the intake manifold gasket

I only get the supercharger whine noise above 5,000 rpm in pretty much any gear when the car is hot.

Are you talking about the same thing?

Sounds like what mine was doing. Found 2 bolts only hand tight. MB redesigned the bolts at some point I think.

Yeah. Pre-FL cars commonly had leaky intake manifold gaskets. Mine threw no CEL. The dealer will probably want like $700-900. The parts are only $150 or so.

This is making me think I might have an intake leak, I get a bit extra "noise" in higher RPMs, I'd call it more "mechanical" than supercharger. Time to search threads.

I've heard that noise in a lot of videos online...I thought it was normal honestly and it's exactly like clock-work over 5000 rpm.

Yeah. Mine was 4200 rpm. Or when the car was super hot after a good flogging it would idle with a little bit of whine.

I've tightened (not replaced) the intake manifold bolts on several other C63's that belong to friends of mine. Probably one third of the bolts have been seriously loose. This is for the minimally mechanically inclined who don't want to replace the intake manifold because perhaps it looks too difficult despite CRB's excellent DIY. It's a super easy job to just tighten them and IMO everyone should do this. I bet it helps a lot over the long haul.

1) Pop off the air filter assembly and stick your hand down at the right-hand side of the base of black Y, pull up on the wide clip portion and the whole assembly will detach to the left and can be lifted out of the way.

2) Look down at the mess of tubing/fittings at the right rear of the motor and visually locate the hidden bolt. You'll use the long Torx driver with the handle and have just enough clearance to poke it through to the bolt head where a socket is too bulky.

3) Use the stubby ratchet with the appropriate extension for the other bolts and tighten according to the sequence diagram posted in other threads. With both tools give it a good smooth turn with one hand until tight and that'll be sufficient. There's no chance of over-torquing with the one hand method if you keep in mind you're just snugging it down with moderate, one-handed force. It's just a 10 min job that I think everyone should do.

I'm thinking the prophylactic approach, before anything is amiss. After a leak, I think one is screwed.

Once the gasket is compromised you're likely sol. But, like I said, could get lucky and it's free to try.
