Noise , from roof glass ? help
I have a 2012. Over the past 6 months I get a noise has progressively developed, ( 2/3 rattle 1/3 squeak squeaky rattle ) It occurs over any bumps in the road. Very difficult to pin down but seems to come from the roof toward rear. Has anyone else encountered this. I have a very good body shop man. With me driving he got in back and seemed to agree it was likely roof glass/frame interface. He said he would have to remove the head liner to begin search. Has anyone else experienced this ?

I have experienced this over and over for the past 4 years, especially under either extremely hot or cold condition.
Brought the car to dealer to check for like 5 times. Among them i think one time they took the whole roof off to reapply the adhesive. The other 4 times they just re-torqued the roof to spec.
Rattle/squeak still exists, but the rate is less now.

This is a fairly common problem with the glass roof. Mine did it as well.
Took it to the dealer, they removed the roof lining and retorqued everything. I haven't heard a noise from my roof for at least 6 months.

thanks all. My suspicions were correct. I assume these are bolts connecting sunroof frame to body ? Would locktite be a no no ? Hate to go through this again.

Tried but no cigar-details
Thanks again for the info/suggestions. We dropped the head liner and found a number of SCREWS a bit loose. Applied locktite and re torqued. No change in noise. Are there some other bolts we could have missed ? Where? We did not take headliner out of the car-difficult or impossible.

I don't have one. And our local dealer is a crook. I have heard from several people with this noise. Further up in my thread someone replied about his dealer successfully fixing it but did not spec warranty status. Surely Mercededes, and their larger dealers are aware of this. A friend of mine owns a german auto repair shop, est for over 25 yrs. He told me about another Mercedes issue that was apparently common to the model year that occurred beyond warranty. This person made enough of a fuss, letter writing, and etc, that Mercedes paid for the repair. Let me know what you find out. If you're not covered maybe we could start a letter writing campaign. To sqeaky wheels are better than two sqeaky roofs! Keep me posted and I shall do the same. I may phone a few larger dealerships and inquire with their service mgrs.

My dealer only charged me 300 to fix it... one hour of labor to remove the roof panel and one hour to tighten and reinstall.
Have you asked your dealer what they would charge to fix it for you?

I plan to call dealers in larger nearby cities. Local dealer has horrible rep. About 10 yrs ago they told my mother she needed several expensive repairs that didn't make sense to me. I took it to a local Merc shop highly recommended for "2nd opinion". they confirmed the repairs as completely bogus. Honest shop saved $800+

My car is under warranty, but my dealer said that rattles from the roof are not covered.
I asked them to quote to remove the roof liner and torque the roof. It was under $200 for the job, so I was ok to pay that.
It's been a year now I think and it's still fine.

You didn't happen to see what screws/bolts were tightened did you. My body man dropped the head liner and torqued some phillips screws . No change.

Do you really think creating a third new thread on this exact topic will help, or just asking in this thread for someone with WIS to give you a hand?

I wasn't saying for him to open a new thread about this. Just saying to put it out there (I guess I kinda already did for him) that he needs help with this.

I was thinking a new thread searching for someone with a W I S. Would be more likely to be noticed by someone who has one.

i think posting in here that you'd like to see the WIS for the pano is probably sufficient. I don't know how a third new thread about your pano roof rattle is going to help anything. I see two or three people posting in here with WIS who might help when they have time if the duplicate and triplicate posts stop...
