C63 Brake Caliper Release

Hey Folks,
I am about to change the brake pads on my 2012 C63 and have been told that you need to plug into the engine computer to release the calipers in order to insert the new pads.
I cant find ANY details on this anywhere, anyone got any ideas?
Cheers

No electronic release required.

Whoever told you that doesn't know what they're talking about.

If the old pads don't slide right out, then just use the pad to push the caliper pistons in a bit until they do. Then, upon installation of the new pads, push the caliper pistons in (with your fingers or pad or prybar or whatever) so you can slide the new pads in.

Couldn't be easier.

The w205 does need to have the electronics released. The w204 does not.

Not about making it harder to DIY, it's done through the service menu in the car.

It's a function of the electronic parking brake, you have to release it and let it wind all the way back so you can compress the caliper. Has been out on cars for 10 years, not some new MB feature, just the way cars are going.

Looks like there us some confusion on this one.

Thanks ItalianJoe1 - Can you tell me if I can access the service menu on the car without needing some ODB2 cable and software or if it can be done on the standard menu on the dash?
Thanks

No, there is zero confusion on this. If you have a W204 C63 - which is what a "c63 AMG 2012" is - then you don't need to do anything electronic or in the service menu to change the brake pads.

Those guys above are talking about the new W205 models. Dude.

Service menu is the same as where you go to reset the oil life. As mentioned, on your 204, you don't have the electronic parking brake so it's not an issue. But yes it's easily accessible with a button press sequence, no special tools needed.

No, it's been out on cars for 10 years. It's more recent to MB, but your benzes are 5-6 years old, not current gen cars. The 166 chassis and the 231 were the first ones I believe, I don't know specifically which was first but it came with the arrival of the direct select shifters, there's no more manual engagement of the park pawl, so the electric parking brake adds another layer of safety to the system.
