That’s weird that it sounds so much better cold. I’d think that def points to the adjuster being the culprit.

That's what I'm thinking.

video from post #40...i do hear a little bit of cam adjuster noise, but to me that is still safe and operational. any louder or more aggressive noise would require immediate replacement. mine has went real real loud twice during ownership... if it was something that came and stayed i would immediately replaced the cam adjusters. honestly with such a simple design, maybe something like the tension spring loosing its stiffness over time which causes failure?
my engine sounds like yours, and most M156's i've seen on youtube sound the same. as mentioned i already replaced lifters so that rules those out. My lifters actually looked fine when removed. a little more wear than normal, but could easily have gone another 30-40k. glad i changed them out though. safe mind, safe heart.

Yeah, I don't think it's a problem yet, but I'll have to keep an eye on it. It's something that has developed over the past year though.
There was absolutely nothing wrong with my buckets last year when I did the head bolts.

Two things: the adjusters can be tested in xentry as well as logged and they underwent 5 updates the part numbers superseded 5 times just under C63.
So AMG knew that there's work to be done.
Mines are the second oldest part number.
Oddly there's another thing, where the first generation adjusters can be sent back to AMG for reconditioning.

I am not working for a dealer in parts, so I don't have dealer level of knowledge, but here is what I think happens with these:
The current (to my knowledge) part number is A 156 050 36 47
I think that both left and right have the same part number, so to overhaul the engine you'd buy two
However, for the exhaust, if I'm right, A 156 050 37 47 is the current part number for TWO of them. You buy this, you get both.
Now my recollection was partially wrong, meaning, the note reads that repair in collaboration with AMG is possible up to engine number 60 001126, so goes not by part number of the unit, but by engine number.
Now the part numbers for this, if I have it right are in order of supersession:
156-050-18-47, 156-050-29-47, 156-050-30-47, 156-050-33-47, 156-050-35-47
So if I'm right you're ahead of me, but still only in the middle of the line.
Again, when reading the above, I'm not a parts professional so this is only best guess, don't buy parts based on what I write, buy them based on consulting with parts professionals.

If you look up the intake CA part number a bunch of parts sites you can see.
You likely can't purchase the earlier revisions anymore. Wonder what was revised between them all?

This is my latest UOA for my 2012 C63 using Rotella T6. I bought the oil last winter and think it was the previous generation but no way to know for sure. It is the top line of the report and you will see it is a much stronger looking reporting and after three oil changes since I got the car the wear numbers are looking much better as the original oil in the car gets flushed out more with each change. I also ran my car longer distances to get the oil warmer for longer periods to see if I could reduce the water and fuel in the oil and it seems to have worked with none reported this time around. Sorry this is posted in portrait mode as landscape was cropping the sides off when I uploaded it.

If you look in the middle section of the report under Physical Tests there is a column with Fuel % as the heading. There was none reported in this sample as shown by the N = Negative in the top row but below the reference sample row at the very top of this section of the report.

How are you all liking the new formulation so far?
Any concerns that it is so thick when cold?

Just a heads up, this oil is on sale now. $20 per gallon with a $7 mail-in rebate per gallon until 12/31. Can’t beat this oil especially at $13 a gallon. I just ordered 8 from Amazon.

Yeah I saw that late last night when I found the rebate terms. Oh well, still my 8 gallons average $16.50 each. Pretty good deal.

Anyone have experience with the 0W-40 variant of Rotella T6? Been happily running the 5W-40 T6 everyone is familiar with in my old Bimmers for years but haven't seen this version before (recently started popping up on the shelves by me).

My latest UOA from May 5, 2019 oil change on Rotella T6 5w40. A very positive report likely because the car was driven 4200 km fairly easily across country last summer and not my usual shorter and more aggressive drive cycles. Some of the additive readings look a little different from past samples. The viscosity readings look particularly high this time around, likely because engine operating temperatures did not reach the higher readings I usually see with more aggressive driving.

Hey everyone,
Im austin and will be picking up my new to me W204 C63 2011. Car has 70k on it and has always been serviced at the dealer which gives me the scaries. When I pick it up what do you guys think is the best oil for these cars? Do I need any additives like ceratec? Ive been reading alot but have yet to find what has truly worked best for people. I live in Pennsylvania and the car will be my daily. Thank you for your advice!

Latest UOA. This is after a partial summer, full winter and one track day. Given the Nickel content I bet my cams are starting to wear more.

Edge 0w-40 is really the top dog in approved oils. I would put Delo 5w-40 above Rotella
