Hardwiring from rear fuse box - dashcam

Hey.

I've just hardwired a dashcam from the fusebox in the boot (trunk) of my W204 saloon.

All is great, but it's not turning off when I switch of the ignition. I've run the cam from the rear power window fuse as I figured they only work when the ignition on, but the cam still seems to.

Am I being stupid here? Tell me if you need any more info and thanks in advance.

Thanks. My set-up is the same, except my runs from one of the 30 amp window fuses (on the rileftght in your pic). I'll give the cigarette lighter fuse a try in the morning - will the power to that one be killed when the ignition is off though?

yes. cigarette lighter only has power when the ignition is on.

if you need a constant power source just use a multimeter to find one.

if your unfamiliar with them, follow these easy steps

turn the car off
remove a fuse
stick the positive end of the meter into the fuse slot
find a grounding source for the negative end of the meter
if the meter reads 12+ volts then you found your source

but that aside, sounds like you needed a switched 12v source which would be the cigarette lighter fuse. good luck

Switched over to the cigarette lighter fuse and all is working a treat. Potentially some sort of relay on the power window circuit? Who knows...

Thanks again for the help.

2014 ML350 4MATIC

Hard Wire connection tapped to Fuse 151. A BlackVue PowerMagic Pro should be able to be hardwired similarly. (installed in ML350 - fuse box located under rear right passenger seat)

This is how I hard wired my dash cam. I have since replaced the ground connection with a larger wire washer.
