Hello,
When I read in the "PPI - Cam lobes" thread, that there might someone be interested in the camshaft adjuster rebuilt kit, I opened this thread here.
Problem: The camshaft adjuster in the M156 engine always get damaged. In every engine. Some earlier, some later. You can hear it then with the typical rattle at the start. The problem is always the same. The plates between the camphaser wear out. It looks like this:
There is no sense in installing new original adjuster, since these wear out after a short time again.
So an owner of an E63 AMG (a friend of mine) had build a plate and the pins here in Germany out of hardened material, that does not lose its elasticity at the same time (danger of a breakage does not exist).
One of his test vehicles now runs 25000 miles without any problems. In addition the rebuilt kit is even cheaper than a new adjuster.
The whole kit costs $1100 for 4 camshaft adjusters.

This is interesting... Can you elaborate on how to purchase these? Also more specifics are to material, machining and condition the material is left? Any hardness values compared to the original ones?
another member here is selling some as well. $550 for the plates in higher quality than original out of Canada. look through the most recent posts here. his Instagram name is 63everything

Thanks hachiroku! Probably going to buy them. Know of anyone who’s upgraded?
I made these plates too but not anywhere near that cost. I made these to replace mine and shortly have it so that its easy to remake for others (hopefully).
Yesterday I rebuilt all of my CA's with a plate and pin kit from 63Motorsports in Canada and am very happy.
Price was cheaper than the kit above plus they have delved deeply into the hardness values of plates verses pins to find the best medium to use in the plates.
Only time and mileage will tell but $880 for a kit (4 plates & 4 pins) is far less than $1000+ each for complete CA's from Stealerships.
OEM CA's seem to wear out at all different rates which makes you wonder about quality control considering its only the base plate that wears.
