So the G/F took the car to work a couple months back (was -35c / -30f outside), called when she arrived and said the "power-steering failed" and was leaking fluid.
Then she decided to drive it home ~15 KMs (10 miles), after I told her to leave it there... I was pretty choked. Car's been sitting since.
Last week, after we figured out the power-steering system isn't covered by the aftermarket warranty, I called my Indi-shop owner. He said bring it in.
They took it in, diagnosed it as the pump. After confusion on his end, the pump ended up costing $1200 Cnd (installed) instead of the (verbally) quoted $900.
It was supposed to be done today, but the mechanic called @ 4:30pm as I'm leaving to go get the car and says - "Ahh, something is wrong with the rack. Feels like air but it's been bled twice."... Yada yada yada.
Waiting for the quote, but pretty fukin pissed at both the shop-owner and my G/F...
Anyone got a lead on a smokin-deal, or possibly even used ? And is this the right part # (it says Coupe) ?

If you want OEM new, I find this place on Long Island (is a Merc dealer) always has the lowest prices, they are $1460 for the part you linked, if it was me, I would probably do the reman though.

I walk to the parts counter in Long Island and threaten to buy the parts from an online dealer and tell them the price, and they still did not suggest i buy from their online portal???
That's why I thought that none of them has one, in Long Island.
With the Subaru, I order online and pick up at the counter ...

I would think that you may be looking at a leaking hose from the start, it got low on fluid and may have damaged the pump.
Next up replaced the pump and now air-rated fluid, I would think turn off and just let the fluid settle top up start up rotate the steering wheel several time then shut off and let the bubbles settle out and repeat would work.
Ultimately what you are looking for is where the fluid was leaking first, if it was the rack it would be leaking at the rack boots.. Have your guy loosens the boots while you are personal their watching and see if either left or right rack boots are full with oil if not Don't replace the rack.
If the rack boots are not full with oil have a very close look at your hoses as I think this is where the problem began and is affecting the bleeding.
I may be wrong but all too easy to order new parts until the problem goes away with out prober diagnosis.
