So we set the temp switch for the aux trans cooler to trigger at say 105C. Problem solved.
Nice. On a hot day I was seeing it peak at 115°C. Will see how it is with the Weistec trans pan. I'd like to think with the cooling fins and extra capacity it should be good for a couple degrees.

Don't get your hopes up. I’ve had mine on since 2016 and still killed my trans.
Way more throughly done. And, you’ll have a piece of mind.
It looks like the southern hotrod kit has double clutches and parts compared to the Rabestos kit, but southern hotrod also uses raybestos. So I wonder what all those other clutches came from.

I agree...adding capacity and fins really doesn't do anything for actual racing. it'll help for short bursts but in actual usage, you need a full on external cooler to manage temps.

Agree. After this past weekend I’m reevaluating everything. Aux cooler parts are on order, I need it now.

double clutches? both Raybesto's and AMS/Exedy clutches are front and back lined versus factory being single sided line if I'm not mistaken.

Well, finally got motivated to dig into the car again.
My track day at Big Willow last month was a little disappointing. Didn’t have my suspension sorted, totally misaligned with ride height all wrong too. Without rear aero (sold that ugly but effective RENNtech wing) the car isn’t nearly as good around a track like that with a bunch of high speed turns. And also had a catastrophic electrical failure which I haven’t started figuring out yet (cooked alternator most likely). To add insult to injury, the trans is still getting too hot and shifting poorly even after the full rebuild. Will have to tear it down again to look at the valve body solenoids as the next possible problem area and redo the adaptations and just generally check things over again. No slipping at least, just slow shifting and lockouts after 20min or so. So I took a little break to get my head clear on things.
Started tearing the car apart this week to knock off a bunch of things on my huge to-do list which just keeps growing. Priority #1 is to fit an aux trans cooler to combat my heat issues. Cleared out space in the drivers side front by removing horns, smog pump and windshield washer reservoir. Look at all that space, it’s beautiful. Going in will be the Mocal 34 row oil cooler (9”x10”x2” core - same size as the BS aux oil cooler on the other side) and Mocal gear pump I ordered, to be controlled by a 200F temp switch and connected with AN lines (-8 AN fittings on everything including the Weistec trans pan). No more fuking around on this thing, I’m pissed now.
The price of a new-from-the-dealer transmission for the pfl is $3146. To this there would be an additional core charge, but you ship your transmission core in, via freight.
The price I am seeing for this at an online dealer, does not include the shipping to my location, because I'm too lazy to add the item to the basket and see how much they would charge for that.
If I had transmission problems at my level of car usage, I would probably take this route.
My experience with transmission shops was (with other, more simple gearboxes), that they tend to get things wrong on assembly, or do an incomplete clean-up job etc. I had a relatively simple 5 speed gearbox in my Subaru, which was guaranteed to implode, once I reached 320 ftlb going through it. I did and 3rd gear went. Transmission shop did an incomplete cleanup, the car ran with the rebuilt transmission for 6 months, then a piece of debris came out of ....where ever it jammed itself and a second rebuild was then needed, this time by the dealer. Third time, I bought a brand-new-from-the-dealer gearbox, the 6-speed model, with no particular torque limitation.
Oh, do you want to know the price for a black series transmission?
hm...lets see
$5027. But here, the core sent in could be a problem. But I would not let this obstacle stop me.
If I wanted a black series transmission in my car (well mine can't accommodate one, but let's just say)
I would contact the online dealer and I would plead my case. Both the online dealer Aaaaaand Mercedes are on the side of wanting to make a profit and wanting to sell you the transmission. If the dismantling boys in Affalterbach have to work a little harder when taking parts out of your transmission and puting them into ... different part trays than they would if your core was a true black seris transmission core.. then let that happen. They ... do.. get.. a salary to do this after all..

Thanks
First cooler duct/shroud mock up out of cardboard done. Will repeat on other side, and make out of riveted aluminum sheet with duct tape and neoprene weatherstripping to seal any gaps. Need to make sure air is getting forced in, and what I had there before was hacked up to death. I’m going to integrate my brake ducts into these because being attached to the bumper grill is a real pain to get in place as I have to remove the front bumper frequently. Feels good to make progress.

Big functional louvers do have a possible downside... if your engine blows up and/or pukes up the oil, most of it ends up on your windshield which does affect your vision. On the other hand, based on whether there are metal chunks in the mess and whether the wipers clear the fluid or just smear it, you'll have a pretty good idea of what it is even before you get towed back to the pits and open the hood...
Some of us don’t need little hood louvers for downforce buddy
They also pull more air through them as well.

That's assuming I have my eyes open if the engine grenades

Time to stop screwing around with carbon fiber. I have to learn how to hook all this stuff up. Cooler, pump, hoses, temp switch, wires, fluid, etc. It’ll all be ok...
I imagine it’ll sit right about here. At least I got the core size perfect.
If anyone has any experience doing something like this, please comment, I’m all ears.
Some unexpected good news - getting rid of all that stuff gave me a new side access point to the engine block. I think I might just be able to fish that dumb SAI pipe out over the headers without totally removing the power steering pump. Bonus.
