507 Forged Wheels - Rim Channel

Hey fellas,

I had my full set of forged alloy wheels restored. After hiring a detailer to use non-toxic cleaners, two of my four wheels had the silver lining stripped from the channel of the rim. I attached an image for reference.

Does anyone have experience/suggestions for recreating the silver channel along the rim?

Thanks in advance!

So that doesn’t make any sense as the silver groove is machined and not coated with anything except maybe some clear coat, so you can’t remove it literally not possible. I would say it is more likely the wheels in question have been refinished fully black including the grove and they had some silver applied over the black that was been removed. If they are factory finished you can see the machining markets in the groove, if it looks painted where the silver is it isn’t factory and the groove is never coated black like your picture, that wheel has been refinisheds.

Looks like they painted/refinished the wheel in all black and filled in the groove.. will prob need to strip the paint in that groove carefully as to not to peel it elsewhere

I'm aware. I had the wheels restored because there were a few minor scratches and curb rash along the rim of the wheels.

Several shops I called in the area do not have the 5-axis CNC machine required to create the silver etching along the rim channel. The shops I called that did have the right equipment only take on projects for specific brands — Mercedes-AMG not being one of them.

Looks like he forgot to mask the lip when he repainted the rest of the wheel. It's just a polished finish with clear. You could probably have the guy strip them and do it right this time I would think?

I'm aware, there was some curb rash on the wheels, so I hired a local wheel restoration company for the full set, which required sandblasting and powder coating. I wasn't present when the wheels were sandblasted, so it's very possible that the silver channel was exposed but they didn't think to mask off the channel before powder coating the wheels.

What exactly would I need to ask for to bring back the factory machined channel? I've been told by a few other enthusiasts that I'll need to find a shop with a 5-axis CNC machine to get this done.
