Tough to tell from the condition of it in that photo.

That tech is claiming it was a factory splice. Seems like enough similarity between the issues on that car and yours to warrant a look, IMO.

Phantom issues on European cars often lead to something electrical being the culprit, no?

Glad you're back on the hunt! I am confident you'll figure it out!

I kinda agree with this guy... the word "exhaust" kept ringing in my head after watching you troubleshoot this issue. Like he said, it doesn't hurt to try - remove the X-pipe and see how she likes it.

Best of luck!

Also , did you check for engine harness oil contamination ? just remove ur ECU engine harness from the computer and check for oil inside ... i saw a lot of these on mutiple mercedes engine ! This can cause a lot of strange issues !

I did check the main connectors at the ECU. They were clean and dry. The only oil I have seen in my harness is on some of the injector plugs, which seems to be somewhat normal on these cars, and doesn't cause issues from what I have seen.

Hi,
Can you swap the cam solenoid from left to right cylinder head or borrow a r/h solenoid from someone just to try it on your engine.

I did that. No change.

Where is everyone getting Xentry from? I see a few downloads on Etsy for ~$20. I ordered the Tactrix Openport 2.0. Will be running on my windows 10 laptop.

Got my xentry setup working using the Tactrix openport 2.0 and Xentry I downloaded from Etsy for $20 lol. Seems to work well, trying to figure out how to properly run the cam adjuster tests. Did a cam position re-learn, no change.

Bump. The battle continues. Think i might have it narrowed down to an adjuster problem, but who knows lol.

Update: bought 2 used cam adjusters on ebay, along with a new cam adjuster cover complete with cam sensors and solenoids. Rebuilt the adjusters using my 63 motorsports plates.

Exact. Same. Issue. No change at all.

Checked and cleaned all of my grounds, some of which had some corrosion. Still no change.

Might pull the ECU apart and look for damage and/or send it off for testing. Not sure what else it could be at this point. Very frustrating.

Damn dude......I admire the persistance and thankful the car is with someone who wants to try and fix it, even though she doesn't appear to want to be fixed.

Thanks. She's got only 68k miles and is super clean. Too nice to give up on. Part of me wishes it had high miles and was beat so I could let go easier lol

We're rooting for you and the E63. Has to be something that is resolvable.

Might be time to check into the wiring.

ECU is off at ECU pros being tested. They sent me a video of another car running (idling) with my ECU and claimed no issues with the ECU. I didnt know what kind of testing they were going to do and didn't know they were going to put the whole ECU on another car, so i originally didnt tell them anything about my particular issue. I have told them that my car only misfires at ~1500rpm and asked them to re-test. Hoping they get back to me today or tomorrow.

In the meantime i've found the wiring diagrams for the engine harness and have started checking all of that. Continuity and resistance values. Nothing out of the ordinary so far.

Assuming the ECU is fine, once I get it back I am going to install an oil pressure gauge and make sure that is in spec as well.

Any ideas what else to check? Knock sensors? Gas pedal sensor? i really dont think this is a coil pack issue since i've swapped coil packs around and the misfires don't change, but anyone know what pins I could probe on the coils to check resistance?

How’s the oil consumption ?
If it’s a lot, then it could be a piston oil ring issue .

Do you have anyone you can swap a gas pedal with and test? Not sure how that could possibly lead to the issues you're experiencing, but that is a very common failure on these cars that will throw them into limp mode (mine went bad at only 53k miles). If you know someone with a car that uses the same pedal, it's a super quick swap to test out.
