Edition 1 side stripes

I'm close to closing on a white on red/black edition 1.

The stick-on black stripes along the bottom of the sides of the car look tacky to me. I may asking the dealer to remove them prior to delivery.

Anyone else?

I think it looks awesome. Not your typical Mercedes or rather, C-Class.

I agree with Nexlogic. I was initially attracted to the Ed1 based on the quilted seats - very "Bentleyish"...
However, I also wanted the car to look different to the standard C63s and well as better differentiated against non AMG C-Classes.
I will have the side decals on my car when it is delivered and will have them taken subsequently taken off (as they are just a sticker) if I get tied of the look over time.

I had a similar thread to this: https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-c...itch-them.html

Opinions were quite polarised between keeping them and instant removal. In the end I've decided to keep them (for all the reasons above) and live with them for a while. If I don't like them after a month or so then I'll get them taken off. My dealer is happy to oblige.

The car is polar white so they stand out alot. I think the red accents on the grill and mirrors as well as the red on the wheels and callipers are tastfly done but not the black stripes. I will have them off .

To me they look more like something that was added as aftermarket rather than OEM.

First time I saw the car when it arrived at the dealer it didn't have the stripes. Later after the PDI and they were installed, I liked the look less, so I saw the car both ways.

If you worry about resale, you can always buy a set to affix to the car at that time.

I purchased the E1 partly because I wanted the stripes which is distinctively symbolic of a special Edition, together with the red accents and black wheels.

I had an E63 AMG S on order since February and stopped by the dealership to check on its status. While there, they rolled this baby into the showroom. Bought it on the spot. E63 who?!

PS: I too am wondering about removing the side stripes. For now, I think I will leave them.

Need to get a better shot but love that carbon fiber with the red accent thread.

On a black car the stripes look OK.
On my white one they were much too , well, too anyway :-)

Can't stand the stickers and red striping. Saw a white C63S up close and didn't like it at all. Naturally aspirated for me. I feel AMG took a step back on this one and it reminds me too much of the CL45 which I hate. I really don't get it. The 204 deserved a better evolution. Looks like a bath tub. Reminds me of Infinty, which I also can't stand. The only redeeming quality is the interior.

I also can't get past the use of the C63 badge which has no relevance to the displacement. It's a poke in the eye. Yes, the argument can be made that it is 6.2 in the 204, but that's a whole lot more accurate than the 205 with 4. There is no reliable replacement for displacement. FI is hot and over engineered.

Look, I owned the 2012 W204 C63 since new. It was a fine car and I liked it.

I did find the ride a bit harsh in the city (where we all do most of our driving). I also found the seats a bit of an issue as the side and bottom left side bolsters took a beating getting in and out of the car. As I had red/black seats the red portion was taking a beating. My dealer agreed to re do the seat back bolster as it wore pretty badly. The seat cushion bolster started looking rather ratty when I traded the car. OK, that is minor.

Other issues related to design and performance also bugged me a bit as well as the very poor fuel consumption when driving the car normally.

The fact that the car overheated after 3 or 4 laps on the track was ridiculous. Yes AMG came out with a cooling kit fix but the customer (me) would have had to purchase it and have it installed. In the US the cost would be about $3000 in Canada where I am it was more like $5000. A ridiculous fault that the customer had to pay for to fix a design flaw.

Some of the earlier cars had the head bolt issue (not in my case) but I found it odd for AMG to make this gaff. It didn't apply to me but ....

OK, I still like the brand and to prove it I bought the W205 C63S Ed1 (minus the black striped, I had those removed prior to delivery (personal taste))

Now the W205 Ed1 is different. Yes the look is much less aggressive but more stealthy, the performance is as good or better, the fuel consumption is settling down and the interior, where we live after all, is exquisite. The seat bolsters are electrically adjustable which solves my pet peeve and the ride in comfort mode in town is very pleasant.

I am heading for the track at the end of the month once the car is well broken in and I'll be able to compare true performance. I'm assured by the AMG rep that the heat problem is gone in this car.

The 63 nomenclature is a Mercedes heritage and I don't really care if the engine has been modernized to turbo and better fuel efficiency and not match the badge. There is absolutely no turbo lag that I can feel. It's a name and does not need to reflect displacement. BMW has for example an idiotic new approach to model names. So what right, off topic sorry.

The dash , controls and electronic features for the driver are far superior to the W204 with lots of cool upgrades including internet access and the controller pad. I'm now used to the column shifter and enjoy just pushing one button to put the car in park and engage the parking brake.

The spot of the old shifter replaced by the mouse pad and controller is much better. Even opening the center storage unit with the button in front rather than the sides is nice. Sun glasses slot, the sliding roof and shade, the interior lighting, the gorgeous seats, the line of switches in the center console, the electronic rear diff, the suspension etc etc are all fantastic improvements.

Even the look of the engine under the hood looks much nicer if you enjoy peeking in there once in a while like I do.

Nice car!

End of rant, thanks for listening.

Nice to read a more balanced assessment of the w204 and w205. Both are amazing cars and Mercedes have done a great job of "modernising" all the key components in the W205 whilst maintaining the elements (eg sound and performance) that made the w204 so successful. Btw, I have an Edition 1 on order and will be keeping the side stripes (at least initially) as I think they add a real visual point of difference. I also love the black/red quilted seats. At the end of the day though, it is all personal taste and no buying decision is a bad buying decision with these cars (w204 & w205).

Reviving an old thread! Where can I buy the Edition 1 grille for me 2015 C300? I don't want the diamond grill..just the one with the 1 beam across it instead of the 2 louvers .

The stripe screams "look at me, look at me." Some of us don't want that and I guess some love it. To each his/her own I say.
As far as the W204 goes, I also bought a face lifted car in 2012 and I thought it was ok. For me the best thing about it was the noise.

A45, Amarok, C63s Edition 1 wagon.
I'm taking delivery of my Iridium Silver Edition 1 C63s wagon in a week or two, and probably getting it wrapped in a matte paint protection film. I think the matte effect works with the stripes and wheels more than the gloss does, and if I don't like the look I can change it fairly easily (but not cheaply!). Iridium Silver Magno looks awesome on an Edition 1 wagon:

To be honest, I only bought the Edition 1 for the interior. I don't like the stripes but I don't hate them enough to take them off immediately and I don't mind the red lips or the red accents on the mirrors. I'm not sure about the wheels.

I had no intention of buying a car with black wheels and matte paint, but since I'm wrapping it in matte effect paint protection film I guess I didn't buy a car with matte paint. I wanted a blue wagon with the cross spoke silver wheels and Edition 1 interior, but there's no such thing.

I'm on the fence regarding the stripes drawing attention. My A45 attracts a LOT of attention, and it's completely stock white with black wheels but I've removed the A45 and AMG badges and nobody knows WTF it is. I've seen people walk around it when it's parked, trying to figure it out. They know it's not an A250 or A180, but they'll eventually spot the "TURBO AMG" badges on the side - that helps some people, others are still confused.
