I have a suspicion that the "software upgrade" is bull****, and that most dealerships just turn the CEL off, hoping it doesn't come back.

That was not my experience but I can't speak for other dealers.

I don't think so, as there has been too many posters saying the same thing and after update agreed it was fixed.
There was also a transmission update that seems to have fixed some shifting abnormalities.
Just picked mine up yesterday so no first hand experience yet.

This may also explain why some people are experiencing misfires. If the engine runs too rich for too long, there is the possibility of fouling one or more spark plugs.
This is a totally reasonable explanation. Running rich would do this. My SA mentioned they are working with a MB engineer to nail down the problem.

If they make the mixture more lean, then there should be a measurable difference. Even in fuel economy.

I had a tune with dyno on my Mustang some years ago and she was running too rich. When they leaned her out a bit she made more horses.

True, but changes in the weather, on-going break-in (my car only had 2,500 miles at the time of the new software), the fact that the car is reset to original factory settings and begins learning all over again after the update, and different driving patterns all impact fuel economy and can hide or exaggerate the effect of the new software.

After the software update, my exhaust note did sound different and I believe there was less popping on deceleration. Again, these are all unscientific observations, but I believe the car felt stronger and sounded different after the update.

Of course the other thing is that I have not had any new problems during the 1,500 miles I have driven since the update.

My car also had a ECU update. I had a minor shake in the engine at idle. That did fix that. Also, the car seemed to be faster, exhaust got louder, and the fuel MPG went from 16 to 18.5.

If so, then it begs the question - why aren't new deliveries being shipped WITH the most updated software possible, leaving it to be done on a dealership level?

That makes zero sense to me.

The transmission update did work on mine, downshifts in auto mode/comfort are now smoother, 4th to 3rd gear downshift was really harsh before..

The only issue left is an annoying ticking sound at idle, apparently it's the purge valve doing its job.. Annoying

Dealer update on my CEL.

Misfire in cylinder #5. They are linking it to a bad ignition coil. No parts available and no ETA yet on when they can get a new coil in.

Another update:

Dealer can't find an ignition coil anywhere, and my case has been escalated. To me that means nothing because the turnaround time now is the first week in October. That's right! One month to source an ignition coil. How pathetic. This loaner sucks too. New C300 with no nav, slow small screen, and no BT audio. This will suck commuting in traffic for a month while I hope that this addresses my issue.

What a crappy way to treat a customer who just spent 90K.

Oh...and they are transitioning ownership. Making this process ever so smoother. /sarcasm

Wow, that is quite unbelievable. Can't you tell the dealer you dont want the car anymore because of all this hassle is bringing you?

I'm not quite there yet. The car is pretty awesome when it's working. A whole month to source a part is sickening. And it isn't even guaranteed to fix the problem.

So i picked up the car this afternoon, and they confirmed misfire in cylinder 1, did the software update and all running well so far.

It was interesting that after the update it took a good 5km of driving and a couple of restarts for the car to feel normal again, what i mean by that is that it felt very restrained and laggy post the update yet now it is back to normal. I guess some sort of "adjustment" was needed for the ECU etc.

Well guys, don't know what to say, bought a 2009 in spring 97000 Km's on it. As I absolute car nut, my 4th MB, previous were, 1986, W124' 560 SEL, and SEC, Koineg wide body and a 1990 190E sport line, have always done most of my own work, what I can. This car shortly after buying it, not from a MB dealer, but reputable VW Porche, dealer had a couple of check engine lights, evaporative emission, can't remember the other, cleared them myself. Changed oil, new air filter and not problems since, was out drag racing all day, shutdown several mustangs, and a Skyline, was out at an old local airstrip , so no fancy lights and timing, but a bunch of local boys got their asses kicked, with some Europeon muscle. Through the traps, 1/4 mile approximately , 200 KPH. As a gear head, I study the crap out of my cars, have all the MB disks, etc for full maintence on my laptop, virtual library. Put some Bridgstone, R11's on it, best tires ever. Best MB ever, and to think, I was out to buy a CLS, came home with this hot rod. Sorry I'm rambling.

Check Engine Light

I had the same problem at less than 5000 miles. First time engine light eventually went off. Second time car went into limp mode. Dealer reported cylinder faults in all cylinders. Escalated to MB yet it is reported that there is not yet a software fix. And, because the problem corrected itself after a restart, there was not enough data to determine the problem. Also in the shop when shocks locked in sport plus mode. Supposedly fixed the problem, yet had the same issue again two days after coming out of the shop. Again, issue resolves after turning the car off and then on. MB has not offered to do anything other than to say nothing is wrong with the car (or everything has been fixed). Not even an apology by Mercedes Benz for the fact my car has been out of service 3 times in the last month.

2016 c63s in shop for over 5 weeks!

18 months old. And 18000 miles. Check engine light appears. Dealer has replaced 2 cylinders. And now replacing turbo charger! And still in the shop after 5 weeks. As they r still working on it! Is this a lemon? It has shifted poorly since I got the car and very uncomfortable stiff ride. Even in comfort mode. Am disgusted with this car. Any suggestions?

The ride is what it is but the rest sucks. How many times in for the same complaint as maybe it qualifies for a lemon law action in your state??
