Exhaust volume of C63S vs C63 vs C43?

Love the loud pipes on these but want to understand if all three have similarly aggressive sound on startup.

Started up a 17 C63S (without performance exhaust) and even in comfort that's got a loud roar. Just a little too aggressive for a daily driver.

how does the regular C63 and C43 compare?

asking because the C63s is almost intimidatingly loud and aggressive on startup.want to understand if there's a drop off to the C63 and C43. Do want some roar.

dealers don't have these in stock here in the Bay Area so hoping someone can compare.

Hi,

someone here has stated that with PE is startup on C63s not so loud as normal exhaust. Dunno if this helps...

Interesting, but orthoganol. I started up a C63S no performance exhaust - it sounded like a terrifying beast. OK for me - but the wife's going to drive it too occasionally.

In my research I've realized that an AMG C43 = Audi S4 in performance, so while no C63 it's still mighty fast. It's also $10k under the regular C63. The C43 is better suited to being a daily driver.

if these were cold starts that will vastly change the overall volume as well.

Cold start can be obnoxious on my 450. Make sure to compare after letting them bake a bit.

Good advice - I see the C450 = C43 engine (transmission changed but that won't affect the exhaust).

OK not prepared to downgrade below the C43. Still talking cold starts.

Are the C63S, C63 and C43 exhaust volumes equally obnoxious or is there a distinct step down?

You need to find one with PE and try. Lot of money, better do some research first.
I have not drive C43 (was not available yet), but had C450 AMG sedan (same as C43 AMG just not coupe) . Same day as M4 and C63s coupe. My observations :

Ride quality C63s>M4>C450
Performance C63s>M4>C450
Sound C63s>C450>M4 (by margin - C450 sounds extremly good)
Look C63s>M4>C450

I have no clue why was in terms of ride quality C63s better than C450AMG, but it was more composed and when hit larger bumb, it wasnt like tearing apart..

As we speek about performance, there was much more than significant difference between C63s and 450AMG, infact, that was the reason why I decided to go with C63s.. cant compare. On the otherhand, M4 in this aspect holded itself very respectfuly, but was no go for ****ty sound and interiour.

Im also intended to use it as a daily driver, and same like by You, my wife is gonna use it occasionaly.

Do yourself a favor, find one with PE, try start up and most importantly take a ride with both!

Cheers

If you want the roar, you wont get that in a C43. The exhaust notes of a C63 and a C43 are vastly different.

Great feedback. It's hard to find dealers with any C43, C63 or C63S' in stock. Found the latter - boy when you start up a C63s you get a great, obnoxious V8 roar, and the entire car throbs. Intimidating / exciting.

Finding the C43 is more in my price range. I'm not taking the thing out on a track.

2017 C43
Having test driven the c450 twice, the CLA45 2-3 times, having owned a 435i with the M Performance exhaust, and having driven an M4 twice, I can say that the c43 sounds better then all of them.

Today I test drove the C43 and it is a completely different animal compared to the old C450. The exhaust is SO MUCH LOUDER the transmission is honestly 10 times better, and shifts as fast as the ZF8 in my 435i. It is insane how loud it is in stock form. It Is definately louder than the CLA45, my 435i and the M4 I Have test driven. I will most likely be trading in the 4 series for a c43 tomorrow Though, I didnt hear the cold start as my dealer brought the car back from a test drive previous to mine. At idle, you can also hear a difference in sound when the valve is closed/opened.

You honestly wont be dissapointed with the sound.

Here are some samples if you haven't heard the car in videos yet:

It seems I had huge luck, being able to testdrive all 3 on same day. (C63s,43,M4)

Just notice.
When im talkin about C450AMG, i mean 4door equivalent to C43 with exactly same tech. Im not sure, if US and EU model marking isnt different.

It did sound mental during drive, was very suprised and pleased - in one word stellar!! Poor M4 Pity I cant recall cold start later now...
My concern was however, that performance didnt quite match glorious sound. Dont get me wrong, it is stil powerfull more than enough. Maybe it is just me.. I have as weekend car Nissan 370z with light mods puting about 350 HP and I simply asked for more in my heart.

Money talk.. My price range is about C43 too, but spendig so much money and have some major concern.. I asked to fire up C63s, my jaw droped, took the ride, my head droped and thats all. Couldnt resist no matter what.. It is hella expensive car, but You get hella car that turns heads and is really special.

Take Your time, find AD, do the trip, enjoy, report

nice swap, do it, 435 is no match to C43..

any video comparision between C43 and C63 can be little tricky, because sweet mid tone of C43 is much easier to capture that deep, fierce sound of C63. Vids dont do justice in this case. Repeating myself, overall i prefer sound of C63, but undoubtably C43 sings terrific!!

I startup my c450 on Sport + exclusively. I pop the start button twice and move the toggle to S+ before hitting start a 3rd time. It makes me feel important like I'm stating an airplane.
It sounds aggressive but nothing crazy. Cold starts give a woof followed by a subdued pop pop. It is nowhere near as loud as the c63. For comparison, my mother drives a Ghibli q4S and that thing in Sport startup barks when's it's cold. Maserati made a hell of a good sounding car as low rpm. I am so jealous of her car's startup sound. My wife and I took a trip with it last summer and she gave me dirty looks every time I started the car.
I am an *** hole.

Agreed - I'm finding the in person experience of AMG exhausts is much more impressive (or obnoxious) than the videos. The videos just don't capture them.

Thanks - your last line was exactly what I wanted to know.

I'm thrilled that the C43 gives you the crackle and pops with the regular exhaust.

Its faster than a S5 and sounds like a M4....so both fall short of the C63, but still damn good (and AWD).

Also guys here keep wanting to speak of their C450 experience as if it's the same as a C43...the C43 has the optional Performance Exhaust which is louder (and much more aggressive sounded on the Coupe, by design, per AMG/MB). The few reports of the standard exhaust on the C43 sedan I've seen have stayed that it's actually more quiet and boring than the C450.

All videos and reports to date support that a C43 Couple with PE is much louder/chattier than a C450 or even C43 Sedan with PE, but not as loud of a bark as a C63 (definitely not as deep of a growl).

i own a c43 with PE and it is probably the best sounding v6 and stock exhaust I have ever heard. Of course this does not include a super car hyper car, c63 any other v8. I love it as my daily driver. Its perfect balance between beast and comfort daily. change the tires from run flats to summer performance and i bet that composure over bumps is equal between cars. the run flats that come standard on all c43 are just horrid.

I would say the c63 and other v8s just have this depth to them that you just know its stout. They bark. The c43 is different and sounds like a well tuned rumble an octave up. Still impressive and will still draw plenty of attention through town. I dont even get on it and when it pops and rumbles they still turn their heads.

but for a v6 its mean. Its definitely borderline for a quiet neighborhood at cold start early in the morning. People will hear it if your neighbors are close. it sounds like a modded car stock.

but it quiets down at idle. and with pe you can tone it down even more with valves closed

Just one data point. My wife doesn't like it when I open the flaps, but is perfectly content when I don't.

She actually puts on more miles than I do and just leaves it in comfort and loves it.

I doubt PE would actually scare off your wife.
