And the footwell subwoofers are above your feet under the dash.

You didn't think a manufacturer was going to actually just count the speakers, like any of us would do, right? Ha ha. Yes, they count a 3-way speaker as 3, or 2-way one as 2. Sneaky bastages.

My speaker rattles in the center dash have creeped back up on certain frequencies... super annoying.

Great thread. Glad I found this one. If I go the C63 route I will almost definitely want to add a sub, if nothing else.

Trouble with surround sound on Burmester system

Hello - My question is about the Burmester sound system. When I go into surround sound and change it from front only to front and back for surround sound, it works fine. However, whenever I turn the engine off and restart, the surround sounds defaults to just the front and turns off the rear surround sound. Do I have to reset it every time to get surround sound for the back and front? Is there something I am doing incorrectly? Is this just how it works?
Thanks,
JAM51

Having to use use BT via smart phone for any decent amount of bass

Like many on here, I'm baffled that the burmeister system does not by default Have a bass boost function. okay while playing rock and more instrumental music it is fantastic but when playing tracks through the CD player or SD card slot , there is no sign of proper bass at all even with mid and treble turned to -10 .that just kills the sound balance.

I'm having to resort to playing music through my phone via Bluetooth and boosting it . I use poweramp and also my Samsung s8+ has decent inbuilt EQ which dials up the bass. The effect is pretty dramatic and the bass sounds great coming from the same speakers. it's definitely more than sufficient and while perhaps ever so slightly lacking on true low end , it is quite brilliantly otherwise.

Not sure which demographic merc thinks people who buy a c class come from but they sure could do a much better job of tweaking their offering to modern music by simply letting you boost the bass. had this same problem with the HK system on the gla 45. while the sub in the back had enough power to vibrate your teeth , having to screw around with only unlocking that through a Bluetooth device isn't ideal

I use the following settings:
Treble -7
Mids -10
Bass +10

This is the equivalent of Treble +3, Mids 0, Bass +10 on a regular system (which is usually where I'd end up).

I agree, there should be a higher maximum volume and definitely more bass. But I make do with the above settings and it definitely helps a lot compared to Bass +10 alone.

I’d say it’s decent but not great. Agree it needs more bass. Prefer the sound of the engine though... does that grin ever wear off?!

Your right, nothing beats the sound of this beast but sometimes you need some bass...

Yeah this car is annoying in terms of the ****ty audio and lack of bass. I'm coming from an M4 in which there was a dedicated plug-n-play aftermarket enclosure available - here's my actual car: http://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1170130

I don't feel like dealing with huge boxes in the trunk anymore, let alone having some custom fabricated thing done just to make this sound decent. I'm kind of annoyed. Looking at the Rockford Fosgate P-300 powered subs, either in 10 or 12" right now but still not happy since I don't wan't a stupid speaker box taking up half of my trunk.

Seriously, this Burmeister sound system sucks ***.

Agree that the sound system is pretty awful. The low end is strangely absent all together. What I want dosent exist - go figure. I want a plug and play solution where I don’t have to have an audio shop doing a butcher job on the factory wiring harnesses. I’ve been down that road too many times and have promised myself I’m not doing it to this car.

Maybe one day a solution will be made for this vehicle...

I cheap fix is getting an App such as Poweramp. Play it with your phone over Bluetooth. A lot more bass.

Yep that's what I tend to do. I quite like that the subs are in the footwells. That's what i do when i want better sound. I also expand the sound (surround) from the app and it makes quite a difference in quality for electronic music. Only catch is that cant really be done while driving (legally) so i have to remember to set everything up before i set off. The results are quite decent and i dont really need a sub in the boot . It could use more pure low end grunt but its definitely good enough. Thumbs up.

Not sure if you can tell the difference on youtube but when i quickly shot and edited the video this morning, there is a marked difference in bass. (Headphones needed) Uploaded to youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caRE...ature=youtu.be

I usually listen to Spotify and just realized today - after seeing these posts - that there is an option to change the EQ settings in the app. It has "bass boost," "hip hop," etc. I liked the hip-hop setting. After changing that the difference in bass was like night and day. With the car's EQ set to bass +10, midrange -10 and treble -7, and surround set to front, it legitimately sounds like I added a small subwoofer to the car. I might be able to live with this now.

Excellent, glad it's working well for you. Yeah i had to do the same in my GLA 45 before this car, it had the exact same issue with the sound tuning. I didnt need to add a subwoofer to that car and i certainly dont need one in this car either. It would be really great if merc updated thier media player software to let us tweak the sound a lot more. Slightly frustrating because i cant really make the most of the CD player and the USB/Memory card options.Though admittedly, when i heard the c class still had a cd player, i laughed under my breath at how ridiculous that is, wondering who on earth still listens to CDs...until i got the car and pretty much the same day stuck a CD in the CD player.

Thanks for that! These settings have really helped me... and same as you: I might be able to live with this for now too

C63S Burmester Sound System - Upgrade

Listen, there is no way around it. This system is brutal. It's unbelievable that Mercedes would think this is acceptable compared to a B&O system in an Audi or the new HK system in a BMW. Anyways, here's what i did to fix it. Why this set-up? Cost effective, easy install with minimal changes and it can be removed in about 2hr's. It was around $4k CAD installed.
On the average, settings need to be down a bit on the highs/mids -2/-2 up on the bass 6-7, I find I do adjust these a lot depending on what I'm listening to.

SO MUCH BETTER. Crisp highs', some nice bass and WAYYY more volume. It went from 74 dB to 96 dB. A huge difference.

Another option is to add an OEM digital signal processor, I just asked about this today to potentially help balance out the system http://www.jlaudio.ca/fix-86-car-aud...m-tuning-98103

On deck is moving to a 10" sub from the 8", just to give it that little bit more.

No BASS

No subs that I can hear. Huge disappointment for me but it's acceptable overall.
