Nope, windows were closed. AC was on. No lift off at the corkscrew. There's a tree that you point the car at (they put a cone in front) and then you just floor it and you come out exactly where you need to. Honestly it wasn't very scary knowing how to place the car.

So, did anyone make any progress with this? I'm ready to pull the trigger on a new c63s, but I don't want to move forward until there is a solution to the tame exhaust.

no progress for me, but a can say that after 2,500 miles the engine sound has opened up some. My sport seats are more comfortable. The springs softened a bit. I drive in sports mode most of the time and use my paddles

None that I'm aware of. I would expect this is the norm moving forward or even less louder with the future years.

Yesterday, we drove through Big Basin Redwoods and Tunitas Creek in SF Bay Area. I drove it in Manual Transmission mode, with the RPMs steadily above 3k RPMs and a good amount of time going past 5k RPMs between corners. There were bikers on the side of the roads in many points, and there were heads turning in multiple occasions when I drove past them. I wouldn't call the car quiet.

Personally, you do get the pops and bangs with the shifts if you are able to keep RPMs high. But yes, the exhaust sound characteristics have changed since pre-FL and it's a fact that you need to make peace with if you want to be happy with your FL C63S.

Agreed, I don't expect anything to change, and I still think there's nothing wrong with the sound of the FL. It's just different. Things will get much quieter and no more V8 it seems. If you want one of the last of an era C63, now is the time. I've also been hitting up the canyons for the last three weekends, and there are pleasant sounds coming from it if you drive it like it's meant to be driven. It pops&bangs in the right moments and just sounds glorious overall. Yep, people turn their heads when I'm coming up behind them. I'm at almost 9000 miles now, and everything seems to have come together. Car drives and sounds great, IMO. It's pure joy to fly through the canyons in this thing. And then you hit up the highway and it turns into a very pleasant long distance cruiser that doesn't beat you up. Especially with the driver assist features I don't think I've ever been this relaxed driving 100s of miles. The FL definitively has gained more grand tourer attributes, but also sharpened up for when you wanna tear up the road. For me, the car hits the note on all fronts. If you mostly gonna drive yourself to work and the grocery store with it and expect that to be accompanied by silly pops&bangs for no good reason, then you'll be disappointed with it and you might wanna look elsewhere. Leave it to those who appreciate it for what it is.

Absolutely agree with Tuxdude an Superswiss.
I am getting much more attention and positive comments about
the sound, not to mention the colour.

interesting point is one of my neighbours did not realise that I previously owned the pre facelift.

You will not be disappointed with the facelift. I’m not.

Could be the reduction in pops and exhaust on the 8 cylinder was planned as a way to get customers ready for the future 4 cylinder variants of the C63.

I cant agree more. I really think we are making such a big deal about this and we are forgetting how much better the FL is. I test drove a few 2019’s and must say i am not upset at all about how it sounds. I cant wait for my 2020. I will enjoy it as much as i can. Car sounds great.

2017 coupe here with an AWE track exhaust. for the first 3 years this car was the most beautiful sounding car in the world, cracks burbles galore in sport+. i brought it to the dealership and they did a "fuel recall", COMPLETELY NERFED the sound. they're also refusing to roll back the recall now. contemplating selling the vehicle at this point.

you had to have started with a preface lift to appreciate the sound that came out of this v8. what they did to the ECU mapping is a goddamn shame. a complete shame.

Are you guys serious about filing a formal complaint to MB for “pops and burbles”?

Seriously? For pops and burbles?

Just checking. I’ve seen it all now, thanks for the laugh. HILARIOUS.

In all reality MB has a reason for what they are doing/did. They are not going to change anything for a tiny handful of enthusiasts complaining on an anonymous Internet car forum.

Looks like the US and EU may have gotten bamboozled, the UAE spec car in the link below pops and is said to be as load as before - is in line with the car I have as well

Well at least now we have a solution for all the folks who are upset about the lack of pops and burbles on their facelifted cars....just move to Dubai !!! Problem solved. You may need a few extra million dollars (or dirhams) in your bank account prior to moving, so you may as well sell that crappy sounding C63 in your garage to help pay for the trip. And the gas is dirt cheap (ha...get it?) which is good because I'm sure all those pops and burbles probably use up a bit of fuel to make their fireworks. But who cares...you'll be living the high life with all the other Sheiks and Shebas.

itd be great to get a oem revised sound update in my 19.

if you want to back date the ecu version to one that has pops and bangs, I can do for you. PM me. This is easier solution then complaining to MB. Just find someone who have software capabilities to flash it to old version.

Is this possible?

With all the new electronics I would think the old ecu version isn't compatible with FL.

Ya, I wonder if that would even work on FL model, New electronics, new trans, tc, trackpace, etc etc etc.
Have you done this to a FL model yet and seen results ?

I will say tho, I have been pushing car a bit more, and driving in different modes, gears, etc and I have been getting more crackles and a few pops and more rumble.

Only has 4k miles, so just now getting to well broken in territory, but only had it a week n half myself, so still getting used to it.

The other car I was looking at was a 2017 w weistec w3 turbos, dps, n tune so to say the least my19 is more subdued, but I do appreciate all the other upgrades. Just missing a lil of the on demand aural feedback, its still there just not as much and not as loud. Though its hardly fair comparing them w those upgrades.

Glad I found this thread.... thought I was going crazy with my facelift.

I have a 2020, and I RARELY get pops/crackles unless I am pushing very hard 6k+

It's the particle filter, just fit a catted aftermarket downpipe and your problem will be solved, no need for a tune and warranty intact as it's a serviceable item.
