C63 M177 - Stage 2 Tune - What Spark Plugs?

Hi all,

I am now running a decat with Stage 2 tune on my car:

The spark plugs are 'old' (10k miles) and need a change to help with the new tune.

Any recommendations on what plugs to use?
Are there any 'step colder' plugs that work well with a stage 2 tune?

Thanks

I am no expert on this, just wondering the same thing myself. My tuner, EC Stage 2, said that factory plugs were just fine and they have 20,000 miles on them. I think I will pull them and take a look.

I found this:

Stock plugs are fine. I have stage 2 turbos and change them every 10k miles because of aggressive tune. Also changing oil every 5k miles

I'm about to change my spark plugs as well.
Does any one know the correct part number for oem plugs? Maybe colder plugs as im on euro charged stage 2? Do oem come pre gapped @ .025?

As for oem is this the correct plug?

000-159-05-00

EDIT

I just talked with MB over the phone 000-159-05-00 is the correct part number for oem plugs.

Champion 7600

This must be the one!

Champion Double Platinum Plug Number KEC4PYPBF-1 Spark Plug

  • Heat Range: 4

Champion 4 is NGK 9

**Unfortunately** these Champion plugs have 14mm thread and are matched according to Champion website.

This Champion 7600 is one step colder if in fact the stock plug is NGK SILZKFR8F7S which the same heat rating for Champion 9069

Champion Iridium Plug Number KEC6WYPB-1 Spark Plug

... and BRISK QR12LS

.

Searching NGK website I found...

NGK 93253 R2556G-9 Racing Plug

I inquired with NGK to find out if these or another one step colder plug works, and also if ignition coils need to be swapped for these plugs.

If I get a response I'll update.

.

PTG is using HKS Racing Plugs designed for Nissan GTR.

I'm not there yet. I'll give these a try after I install Pure 900.

I am running the HKS plugs. They are what you want. You can pick them up at VividRacing for a cheaper price.

OEM are 0.028 or 0.030 if memory serves correct. Most people don’t drop gap until running upgraded turbos. I’m running 101 octane, decat downpipes, and aftermarket intakes on stock gapped plugs, no issues.

We also haven’t seen the need to upgrade plugs until going larger turbo. We run them on our setup and believe they helped with some hiccups during WOT shifts.

We have the HKS plugs in stock as well

with larger turbos, I had to swap to HKS plugs and gap to .026 because of consistent misfire at WOT. Problem went away with these plugs - FYI for the guys experiencing this issue. I bought 4 extra plugs just in case a bank or two fouls and have them on hand. They seem to be pretty easily accessible.

Today I got a cylinder #7 misfire. I have a JB4. Should I go with OEM plugs? If not, which ones should I get? Would I have to index them? Are there OEM plugs 1 heat range colder?
Thanks.

OEM plugs are fine for Stage 1 but anything higher upgrade to HKS plugs. I'm using HKS plugs for the last 2 years after turbos were upgraded, 26psi and they're running strong.

Just check that it's not caused by coil packs. Have you had the coil packs changed since owning the car? If so, you can rule that out.

i am the 2nd owner. I only have the car for 1 month.
The misfire has only happened once and I was on the track when it happened, about 3/4 through my session.
2019 with 30k miles.

I had misfire # 5 and 6 about 3 weeks after the 5th year Service which included Spark Plugs. Engine light came on. I just filled up with gas so I thought it wss bad fuel. Drove next day to MB Deakership.
. MB Dealership replaced Coil Pack 5 and 6.
. NOTE: Coil Packs are warranty by Dealership till 100,000 miles. So no charges. They had my car for a long 2 weeks
. I also noticed they replaced a spark plug which may have been installed incorrectly.

.

Yes. Lucky a loaner was available. I will attach the detailed steps taken by MB tech to ensure it was coil packs. I have to find it.

Does the year matter for coil warranty? I have a 2019 that misfires every once in a while.

I also have 2019 (C63s coupe) and SM stated MB will cover these up to 100,000 miles. I also purchased MB Extended Warranty in 2023 but SM told me it will be covered under the Ignition coils policy. As you can see the step by step taken by tech. to ensure it was the ignition coils and not something else.
