Brake dust driving me up a wall

Does ANYONE have ANY clue how to reduce the brake dust? I'm currently running Hawk ceramics but still have to wash the car every 100 miles before I look like i have chocolate wheels. Any recommendation on which pads produce the least amount of dust? Or should I just bite the bullet and do a full ceramic conversion?

ceramic matrix pads produce the least dust. but braking sacrifices a tad versus semi-metallic which stop the best and create most dust.

Little blurb form Rock auto to better explain....

Last year of 2021 AMG Wagon ownership, had my black genuine MB AMG forged wheels with dedicated DWS06+ All Season Tires, Ceramic Coated to ease cleaning.

Sold my wagon about 2-months ago before Brake Job was needed...now I miss how well those brakes bit hard and saved my bacon to avoid collisions.

You’re already running a Good ceramic pad. Next up is removing wheel, decon wash, prep and do a ceramic coating. You have 390mm iron rotors and giant pads. It’s gonna dust a lot.

ygmn,
The ceramics have the most dollar signs, and the most endurance. Is that an even financial tradeoff, or will the longer lasting pads DECREASE brake wear expense?

I dunno guess it depends on brand, condition, driving style etc etc,.

Purpose of chart was to give you some info on different materials.

So semi-Metallic has best stopping power and the noisiest of the 3.
Ceramic has the least dust and lasts the longest of the 3.
Organic is Cheap...

you have to decide what is important to you.

This does not include Carbon Fiber as way different animal and well really expensive.

You can grab the Porterfield Pads from us below (10% off when you add to cart)
Front: https://eurozonetuning.com/products/...s-ap1291-front
Rear: https://eurozonetuning.com/products/...ds-ap1669-rear

We run these on our 2018 C63S and I'd say the dust is reduced 90% over OEM.

Thanks,
Bill

I've had the porterfields r4-s front and rear on my car for a couple years now, it's definitely less brake dust but nowhere near 90% less(don't want to get your hopes too high).. I still get a bunch of dust on my wheels just after a few days of driving. I would suggest ceramic coating your wheels, it helps with removing a lot of the brake dust with a simple hose down. Now if I could find a pad that doesn't squeal so much that would be great...

sounds about right. I definitely felt 90% was way too high of a reduction for non ceramic pads. Less then stock is still an improvement

on brand new MB pad i get 99% no noise stops. I’ve tracked them, daily drive them and not a peep.

Ah lucky you, i've tried replacing with OEM brake pads and still got the brake noise, then went with the porterfields and stuck with them because of the reduced dust. I've tried installing with and without the metal brake pad shim and still no luck :\ noise always comes back after a bit. Did you install the pads yourself?

I'm always washing the wheels. Fill my dedicated wheel washing bucket with car wash soap and water and just wipe them down with a big foam sponge every other day or so. Takes less than 5 minutes, dont even have to drag the hose out if youre in a rush, but its better to rinse them down afterwards. I tried all sorts of cleaners, waxes, coatings and nothing beats the wash bucket.

I thought about installing ceramic pads but the OE pads seem to work so well.

if youre getting brake pad noise maybe its where you are/are not applying grease.

Thanks for providing that, I'll try taking apart the brakes again and reapplying grease. Maybe it's the grease i am using, i'll try some of the MB stuff.

belie wit or not carmax did them. A tech that they poached from MB. he insisted new Brembo hardware/clips, new slide pins, and I needed the brakes in myself.

I w found the little grease packs that Hawk provides with their pads are the best. Wish they sold it in jar form.
