Would you swap these rims?

I bought my ‘23 coupe as a dealer spec’d car. It had almost every option that I would’ve personally chosen but custom ordering a ‘23 coupe back then wasn’t feasible as allocations were extremely limited.

About the only thing I would’ve changed were the rims and possibly the color. I wanted either obsidian black or diamond white and at the time, I preferred the RXC rims over the multi-spoke rims. As luck would have it, I met a friend online in my town who also has a mango graphite ‘23 coupe. He wishes he had my rims and I wish mine had RXC rims.

We’re both down to swap rims, but I just want to hear from those who have the RXC rims how they’ve held up. I read they’re prone to buckling if tire pressures are below a certain PSI. Also, his rims will have around 20k more miles than mine (I’m only at around 6k) but they’re still in excellent shape. Is this a good swap or keep mine as is?

If you like them more than the wheels you have and they're in comparable shape and aren't bent, go for it. If his look like they have a lot more wear on them than yours, I'd pass. Check them out on a road force balancing machine at a wheel shop to make sure there are no issues with them. Both wheels look good on these cars, so you can't go wrong.

Got them for two years now, no issues, 24k km. Check them but they shouldnt’ be bent

To me they look much more aggressive than the other ones which I had on my previous c63s.

Personally I’d do the swap, but as getsome said, look for damage and see if they’re warped in any way.

RXC are unbelievably light wheels. They're prone to damage and buckles if the tyre pressures are low but they're my favorite wheels so much so, I've got a full spare set.

RXC fronts weigh 8.27kg (18.2 lbs) and 9.88kg (21.7lbs) in the rear. The standard multi spokes on yours weigh 10.65kg (23.7lbs) and 10.73kg (23.7lbs) rear 👍

Got the RXC wheels on mine, too. I agree they look much better due to the lip and the concave design. And yes, they are superlight. First time I took off a wheel I couldn't believe how light it was. As for prone to damage, I can't really agree with that. I run them at 33F/32R as per recommendation for normal load. I did slightly bend the lip on one of the front ones during the pandemic driving over an inch of raised pavement at highway speed, but that would have likely happened with another wheel as well. Bubbled the tire, but didn't bend or crack the drum, just slightly bent the lip. Had it repaired, but you can still tell if you know where to look, so it's a bit of a cosmetic flaw not more. I treat it like a war injury...haha, but I'm still kinda mad it happened, because I knew about this hazard, but had forgotten about it. Now if you make it a habit to crash through potholes, then you'll have issue, but you will with many other low profile wheel setups as well. The people who managed to bust these have some terrible roads where they live.

My Obsidian Black with Aero and CF packages. They look awesome and aggressive on the move as well. Not that I can see it while driving, but looks good in pictures.

I definitely like them better than mine. For one, they’d be easier to clean and they look a lot meaner on this car. Good idea to have them checked on a road force machine, the shop we’re planning on doing the shop should have one.

Good to know. Yes they’re definitely more aggressive looking, I think they’re the perfect look for the C63s.

Will do, I’m just waiting on new rear Michelin 4s tires to arrive so we can set up a day to get it done. My current rears only lasted around 6k miles so I’m planning to swap out all 4 tires as well while the rims are off.

Great looking ride, mate! I always wanted the RXC’s on my ‘21 diamond white coupe but I couldn’t find a decent used set anywhere. That’s a huge weight difference, so it’s good to know I’ll shave off some unsprung weight compared to my current setup.

Thanks for the detailed reply and thorough input. I generally run my PSI’s a bit higher as my installer recommended doing so since I’m running a wider 305R/275F setup. I go with 38R / 36F in the summer and a couple PSI’s higher in the winter since they deflate rapidly when it’s cold. We don’t have a whole lot of potholes in the parts of town I usually drive in, so I think I should be good.

Your obsidian black coupe looks spot on with these rims. In that last pic, it almost looks like you’re running 305 rears but I remember a while back you mentioned you stick with stock sizes. If those are 285 rears, they look about as wide as my 305’s look on my rims. Maybe it’s because the concave design enhances the wide look of the tire, I dunno.

Yes, those are the stock 285 Pilot Super Sport. That picture was taken on the Nürburgring during my European Delivery, so it's as stock as it gets. The Super Sport actually had a pretty stretched look on the rear. I now run 285 BMW Star PS4S. The PS4S is slightly wider given the same size. I have to say, I liked the more stretched look of the Super Sport, but the PS4S is still stretched and I didn't like the Super Sport otherwise. It was crashy and harsh compared to the PS4S. I don't like going wider w/o wider wheels, because the tire just gets more square and starts rolling over the sidewall during hard cornering.

So unfortunately, this wheel swap never materialized. My friend had some minor scuffs on the spokes of 2 of his rims, so he took them in to get resprayed. Unfortunately, for whatever reason they painted the 2 rims gloss black instead of matte black so there was an obvious mismatch. Obviously I wasn’t going to accept anything other than the complete stock look on all 4 rims, so he took them back to get them fixed. They assured him they would restore the 2 gloss black rims that they screwed up on back to the factory look.

Well, that didn’t happen. Inexplicably, they f’d up all 4 of his rims by painting them all entirely gloss black. Not just the spokes, but the machined lips, the AMG logos, the whole 9 yards:

All gloss black rims

Supposedly the shop is going to once again fix their mess but at this point I’m considering just getting some similar aftermarket rims such as BC Forged. I do want to go up a rim size from stock, so I’m thinking of running 19x9.5 fronts and 20x11 rears since I run wider 275 / 305 tires and they would better fit a slightly wider rim. Has anyone gone with wider aftermarket rims? If I’m not mistaken, stock offsets on the RXC’s are the same as my rims (20x10.5 ET57 rear / 19x9 ET25). BC Forged recommends 19x9.5 ET20 F 20x11 ET52, essentially pushing the rims 11mm further out than stock. Would this setup work with wider 275 f and 305 r tires?

That sucks my friend. I had a wheel shop repair one of my RXC wheels many years ago and did the same thing - painted the center section in gloss black. I was really pissed off because it made the wheel look sh*t. You've got to have the RXC wheels with the lip silver lip. It's the signature AMG look haha.

Will there be a chance for you to swap again in the future? Would you swap your wheels for a factory looking set of RXC's?

As mentioned above, they truly are the best performing wheels even if they're sensitive to bad roads, they're very light and you can 100% feel it after fitment in just the way the steering wheel moves. Something about them really gives the C63 a real tough look about it. Just ask @japamg how much he loves them 😂

Hey Jimmy, your ride looks sick with those RXC wheels and facelift conversion!
I’ll definitely take a look at my friend’s re-finished rims once the shop supposedly fixes their blunder since he’s also still interested in doing the swap. But if that shop’s work looks any different than factory, the swap is gonna be a no-go from my end.

When you say would I swap my rims for a factory looking set of RXC’s, are you talking about replicas? I have talked to another C63s coipe owner who got custom RXC rims made for a fraction of the factory price…he drove them for nearly 20k miles with zero issues so it’s also something I might consider doing.

The RXC wheels are the best looking for this car by far. I had the other ones on my pre-facelift so I can compare how they look in real life….So far I have had no issues with the RXC, really loving them

I am even planning to do a very nerdy and freaky thing suggested by member@Jimmy_c63s, buying a new set to store in case something happens to mine hahahahaha

You and superswiss are like twin facelift villains.

I almost faint every time I see pictures of your car and what you've done with the low key upgrades, you have the best Final Edition ever.

Thanks guys! You always cheering me up 🙃

After almost 7 years with this car (5 pre-facelift and 2 with the FE) I still turn my head in the garage…

I remember how nice the RXC wheels looked...and took the brunt of buying a set, and eventually was able to sell my original wheels afterward. Never had any regrets. The polished lip just really makes the wheels pop. Beautiful wheel.

In fact, I love these wheels so much, I wish I could run them on my S63 Cabrio, but neither the C63 nor the GTR versions of the wheels would fit...

I’d consider it if the fitment makes sense. Offset and brake clearance matter way more than the design alone, especially on a C63. If the new rims clear the calipers, don’t rub, and you like the look, it’s a solid upgrade. Wheels can completely change the car.
