CL-Class (W215) 2000-2006: CL 500, CL 600

Would you choose a 911 turbo or this CL600 Lorinser? And is this a good price?

This Benz is a 2002 has 20k miles and is priced at $62k firm. The 2001 Porsche turbo I have seen with similar miles is closer to $70k. I have driven & love them both. The porsche does kick *** at 415hp. This 2002 CL600 is slower at 362hp and the owner said the lorinser exhausts add a little more hp. Although, I didnt feel it when driving. It has 9 months of mercedes warranty left.

I really want a car that is a head turner and will stay in style as long as possible. The 2007 turbos are not much different from the current porsche turbos as far as exterior styling goes. However, the 2007 CL will be quite a bit different looking.

But, what do you think about the look of it and the price he is asking?

CL600 2003
I am not in love with the Lorinser mods. The Porsche will hold its value longer and in this case power is king. If this were a 2003 or newer CL600 I would go with the CL. Based on the price, I would look for a 2003 CL600.

i drive an ///M6
a cl will definately turn more heads than the 911, (even a cl500) the porsche will surely be more fun w/ all the extra power, but if you can, go for an 03 or newer cl6, then you have the comfort, looks, and speed all in one. the lorinser pkg looks ok, but the factory sport pkg looks better imho. porsche will hold better value longer, but who really cares?

I'd get the 911 Turbo, if it's not '03 up CL600.

Yeh, I'd get the 911 turbo. I'm not a fan of the Lorinser mods either...they look a bit choppy to me - not in line with the sleek lines of some other kits and mercs.

I'd get the Porsche as well, although if I really was going to buy any Porsche it would an air-cooled 1998 Porsche Targa (it has the full panoramic sliding roof) but that's just me. You simply cannot beat the sound of an air-cooled Porsche.

You know I like the porsche but never understood why it was so small. German men are big guys and it looks funny to see a big guy driving such a small car. Pretty sure both cars will turn heads just figure out which one fits you best

I love reading that, it let's me know I'm not alone. A budy of mine has a beautiful black 95' and your right about the sound of an airhead. I have driven a newer 997 and also the 996. The older air cooled engines near redline give me goosebumps. To this day my buds 95' is the most fun I have ever had in a car. I've driven it alone maybe 3x and everytime I am laughing aloud to myself in there like insane person.

Granted, I love my C43 to death but the only reason I have it is because I'm 23 and can't come close to affording a real porsche. Some day......

Go with the 911 hands down.

If this is worth anything... I asked 12 rather attractive women between the ages of 24 and 33 which car they liked... in many cases I had to show them a 911T.... and they know the CL because I own one... I leveled the playing field by telling them I was planning on purchasing the 911 so that they would not throw more positive comments towards the car they were sitting in.

Almost all commented the word "classy" when it came to the MB. The phrase "mid-life crises" came up often when they talked about the 911...

They all love the CL, a few of the younger ones thought the Porsche was more "cool", but those same ones, shown an Imola orange Acura NSX, thought the Acura was even cooler than the 911.

Most commented that the 911 was "common".... and most, surprisingly, couldn't differentiate much between a standard Carrera and a Turbo.

When asked which car they preffered to be picked up in, 10 of the 12 said "the CL". Two said they thought the 911 would be "more fun". They felt the CL was understated but said volumes about its owner, and that the 911 was more a "showoff" vehicle.

None saw a Lorinser CL, but I can tell you... most won't even see the difference and the ones that do will either not care or think its ugly. The line of thought will be that it is "fake". If that kit is pleasing to you, know that it's a guy thing.

Anyway, I am not telling you to go one way or the other.. I love both cars. I am just telling you this was my "research" and these were my findings.

This is what I do on my off time... "research"...

I find the kit to look really nice. Its not some half *** job done at a shop.
We're talking lorinser who taylors specifically to MB just as AMG and brabus does.

2001 Lorinser Edition CL600 (SOLD)
Despite the fact that some stodgy conservatives and so-called MB "purists" may find aftermarket aero kits abhorrent and tacky in so many words, with the much-revered and coveted W215 on the cusp of a major body style change and in its final year of production, an aggressive, yet tasteful kit by a major "accepted" German tuner like Lorinser, for example, would be a welcome and refreshing final "face-lift" if you will, not to mention the simple fact that it will make the car subtly distinguished from the "pedestrian" stock CL image which some saavy enough auto aficionados may exert has noticeably aged. I won't agree with that opinion until the 216 is out and on the roads for a few months. I still love a basic 215, but love the tricked-out ones even moreso. It's like taking the basic good-looking clean girl next door that would say "yes" to a date and making her a seductive, you-can't-touch-me b**ch!

As for those such purists, they don't have a leg to stand on, as MB is nonetheless a production car, albeit an upscale luxury production car, but an assembly-line production car no less, and as such, purity doesn't apply here and is entirely meaningless. If we're talking collector-status classic Ferrari, Lambo, Bentley, RR, or even Benz, well then, that's an entirely different pedigree of automobile wherein purity is justified along with exclusivity, and slapping on a kit would be altogether declasse.

In a word, if the price is right, go for it. Let the previous owner take the hit on the kit's depreciation and you get it for a song; and that's exactly what I did when I snagged mine, wherein the previous owner goes through body shop hell and major bank account-siphoning, painstakingly adding a $20,000 aero kit which depreciated to pennies on the dollar when my time came to get behind the wheel. Better him than me to take it in the shorts! The beauty of it is that only I know that! It still has a $20,000 body kit on it and that's all anyone has to know.

A Porsche doesn't hold a candle to a tricked-out CL. Unless it's a Carrerra GT or Gemballa, Porsches have been out of the game for me since the fall of the slant-nose, but I'm far from being any kind of Porsche fan to begin with, so that's just me. And who cares about the HP difference; only you and your mechanic knows. Furthermore, with the 2003 tail lamps that I see were upgraded on this car, again, unless you tell anyone else or an insider peeks inside and sees the pre-03 nav, only the two of you will know it's an 02.

So, to hell with the "purists". Go for what makes your heart pound fast when you glance at its badass reflection off all the stock CLs you drive next to!

If you plan on going to track events (AutoX, SCCA), go with the Porsche hands down.

that CL is definately a head turner. The lorinser kit and wheels really set the car off.
IMO it will turn way more heads than a twin turbo unless its got some flashy wheels, etc.

FWIW the CL would be a bettter daily/comfortable driver as well

I will say this... 62K seems like a very fair price for that kinda milage and a 20K kit thrown in if you like its look.

Yeah but the difference is that Brabus and AMG also make the car faster, whereas Lorinser is pretty much just looks. If every Lorinser bodied car had like an extra 150 HP and some nice suspension mods, the kit would probably look better in a lot of people's eyes.
