Please give it more than 45 minutes between posts to get an answer. If you need to pass the time I'm sure its explained in your owners manual. Make sure you have it as well as your garage door opener manual. Another reference would be found by searching MBWorld. That question has come up numerous times for different MB models.

you have to clear the memory before you program it (even the first time). I can't tremember exactly how you do it (I think you hold 2 buttons down for some period of time). It tells you how to clear the memory in the manual; it just doesn't mention that you have to do it before you first program the buttons.

Turn electronic key in starter switch to position 1 or 2.
SimultaneousTurn electronic key in starter switch to position 1 or 2.
Hold the end of your hand-held garage door opener approximately 2 to 5 inches (5 cm to 12 cm) away from the surface of the in-vehicle remote control located on the inside rear view mirror, keeping the indicator lamp in view.
Using both hands, simultaneously push the hand-held garage door opener button and the desired in-vehicle remote control button. Do not release the buttons until completing step 4.
The indicator lamp on the in-vehicle remote control will flash, first slowly and then rapidly. When the indicator lamp flashes rapidly, both buttons may be released (the rapid flashing lamp indicates successful programming of the new frequency signal). To program the remaining two remote control buttons, follow steps 1 through 4.

To clear memory:

Turn electronic key in starter switch to position 1 or 2.
Simultaneously hold down the left and right side buttons for approximately 20 seconds, or until the control lamp blink rapidly. This will erase the codes of all three channels.

If your garage door opener uses a "rolling code" you may want to check this thread:
https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...t=code+rolling

Hope this helps.

It took probably a full minute before the car "paired" with the remote,, so you may have to hold both the car button and the remote button down longer then "you feel you should have to". Once paired with the remote it was a snap recognizing the rolling code door opener.
