Lightbulb Ignition Voltage transformer cooling mod

Ignition Voltage transformer gets hot with heavy tunes

question was, Insulate it or Cool it .....

answer is, it needs to be cooled

order
3M Thermal Adhesive Tape for Heatsink 200x100mm
+ quare Aluminium LED Cooling Heatsink (156x156x15mm)

customize it if you want

there you go

What's the actual temp difference before/after?

Hi Joe !

dunno, didn't measure yet but based on some tuners works

thing is, this part is not supposed to burn out, but when you tune hard
only some excessive degrees can kill the device
I just upgraded it to latest so I try to protect it

so even a 10% better temp might save you a headache

The one guy that moved it off the top of the engine has the right idea I believe. Your hood scoops will do way more for it than the heat sinks can.

where did he moved it ?

because the problem is the wires

the device is there because you can not really change the wiring length without risk
if you move it you should have bigger cables diameter by calculations

I was thinking about elevating it but no space ...

diameter and length of there wires transporting high voltage is critical
if it wasn't, that device would hang front radiator for me

believe me, it's a cheap and easy mod and only for tuned cars

he put it on top of one of the inter coolers , which along with his ice water intercooler mod , made the temps 150 degrees lower than the regular location of the transformer

thx

yea, Icebox in the trunk is one of my next things too

I don't carry any spare wheel, gonna use half of that space

do you know if he changed wire length ?

Yeah I believe he lengthened the harness to it. Wouldn't make a difference as long as it was done correctly.

oh ok

but again, I guess mercedes used the exact diameter for this wiring
so I can tell you that to change lenght, you must increase diameter of the wiring to avoid loss

same is in recording studio gear

for long cable runs , yes you need thicker wire , but it's only a few inch extension of the wire

just splicing in new cable of the same gauge will be fine

hi, do you think installing heat sinks on a cl600 used for every day driving with an occasional spirited drive is worth doing? the car does have a rentech tune, but is very rarely raced.
thanks for you input.
the best
p.s. the ignition transformer was changed about 50,000 miles ago.

I would, especially that like me you have a new voltage transformer
I would add protection
can't hurt, neither your walled

just 15$ or so
