CL65 Lowered with Kleeman EBL

Got my CL lowered recently. It is a -50mm drop from the ROW setting.

Car was delivered by AMG with -15mm drop from ROW setting. And with Kleeman EBL, further drop of -35mm. So -50mm drop.

I must say the Kleeman EBL is really nice. You can bypass the setting back to orignal anytime with a small socket plug on. Nice. Ride comfort is the same as original even with the drop. That is one thing i will not understand why because I got my dealer to use star diagnose to do level calibration and load test to drop it 30mm and the ride is ridiculously hard. But with this EBL, it is just like original. I was told it has something to do with the automatic voltage regulator that the EBL does which the star diagnose does not do.

Anyway here are the pictures. It taken bright noon so you might not see the drop that clearly.

Looks good. My dream car. I was wondering, for a car like this is it cheaper in malaysia or singapore, or the same?

Wow, that's impressive. How much is that in Malaysia, like $700,000 US?

I post about my car and you guys reply about my house.. sad. lol

Yeah its my house Jack. Just moved in 1 1/2 years ago.

The car will definately be more expensive in Malaysia then Singapore. Lower end to middle class cars will be more expensive in Singapore. But high end cars definately will be Malaysia as the duty here max out at 330% while Singapore max out at 200%.

Z3RO, I paid for it around US$2050 including courier from Denmark Kleeman and installation from their local dealers. I think its a fair price when compared with Awiner's Brabus module. He quoted around the same region for the Kleeman EBL.

Really can't see the ride height, will take some photos when its not so bright and have some time.

Lol! Thank BMWEater and Bklynbenz. Its nice comments.

Merzadyboy, you being serious? You want more pics of my house? :p

That pic was MerzadY_BoY showing off the decorations that are around his house in Scottsdale.

Sorry to hijack the thread James talking about your house. It was so just spectacular.....JUST the kind of house I will buy when the cash comes.

Of course the car is just breathtaking. I was wondering what it was going to look like lowered but it looks great....not to much bling.

If you ever feel comfortable posting some pics of the rest of the house, great. If not, totally understand.

Thanks for the pics.

Jim

This is something I have been thinking about myself. I lowered my car using mechanical arms made by Lorinser. About 1", or 26mm. When I raise the car back up using the factory dash switch, there is a slight improvement in ride quality. Not over small bumps, but it seems because now there is the extra travel available with the wheel, the car has a softer ride over dips in the road. Even when it was stock, and raised it even higher, the ride seemed to get just a bit better.

This brings up a question. How exactly does ABC work? Does it progressively exert more pressure as their area of recoil is reduced? Most standard suspensions do not have the same resistance level at the beginning as they do as compression increases. As the suspension comes closer to bottoming out, its resistance is greatly increased. I would assume that ABC does the same somehow.

Now when you lower a standard car by changing its springs to aftermarket ones, those springs are generally stiffer, to keep the car from bottoming out on a hard bump because TRAVEL is reduced. Aftermarket parts makers take this into consideration when manufacturing these lowering springs.

But when you lower an ABC equipped car, that suspension's stiffness seems to be under computer control. As you fool this computer (which all electronic and mechanical lowering modules do), you have essentialy lowered the body, reduced travel, yet the computer is constantly thinking the body is sitting higher than it is, and that more travel is available that there really is. Therefore, its a logical conclusion that the computer would not increase the stiffness factor at all....

I would suspect that when you lowered your car using star diagnostics, the computer then "knew" that the car is lower.... and therfore based on its factory program, increased suspension stiffness to protect the suspension and the car in case of severe bumps. With the Kleemann EBL, you are realizing just as good a ride, because the ECU still thinks the car is stitting up high and does not change ride quality. This would of course leave the suspension more vulnerable, but is a logical explanation.

I am just guessing on this theory.... perhaps stiffness or valving is more based on pressure inside the suspension modules and has nothing to do with the computer at all... in which case whether you lower it or not, it would always be at the correct stiffness beased on pressure....

I hope I was not too confusing and that you guys get the gist of what I am trying to say.... if anyone has more info into the workings of ABC, please post. But if this theory is correct, that would explain why James had a stiff ride when Star Diagnostics was used. And it would cast some doubt about the wisdom of lowering the car by fooling the computer.

By the way James, that car is perfect. The stance looks great.... love the color too.

No offense Merzady but your house looks like a location for pornstars shooting! LOL you have all the requirements! Pools, hillside, etc etc! hahaha!
Speaking of which, are you one? :P and a young one that is! (Disclaimer: This is a joke, not meant to be taken seriously, some people have no humour)

Sure Jack, I'll post some of them. No much problem, not that anyone would know who or where I am from in this forum anyway. lol. I would be if i'm in the states. But I'm too far away to make of any concerns of privacy heh!

Pictures coming! Does mine need to have lots of honeys as well?

You are very near on what you said. You should dig up a parts drawing on ABC suspension system or it would be quite hard to understand at all. The ABC suspension works with constantly maintain an air pressure of ~189psi within its seals. There is a sprint at the top end mount but that will not be used unless its lowered to the extreme thus requiring support. Normally the car would be travelling under air pressure + hydraulics absorber but not spring support. It is very hard to explain mate. I did not understand at all. The Kleeman dealer took out an official manufacturing drawing of ABC suspension and showed to me then I understood what ABC really it. And I must say, its a technological marvel to be in a road car though the downsides are they are slightly heavier.

But as for the ride quality, I can guarantee is it a LOT better with lowering linkages or through Star Diagnose programming. The dealer explain to me that it is more like a bypass of voltage circuitry instead of fooling the computer. Meaning to say now the voltage instead of being control by the ABC ECU is not controlled by Kleeman Module. There is a voltage regulator inside. Also do note that the level sensor uses voltage ratings to lower and increase the car. The range can be from -2.8volt to -3.3volt or something like that. I can't remember.

Anyone would like to lower their car and dont mind some loosing some extra cash for ride comfort, i strongly recommend lowering module. I am a very finicky person and i have tried all. None can compete with the lowering modules. Mine is Kleeman that is.

On the star dianogse having a stiffer ride, no idea, still asking my friend at Mercedes. He's their top guy for star dianogse programming. Thats why i get to play with star dianogse however i want and not void any warranty as well.

19?? Too bad. Way too old for me, lol.
After 18 they just go downhill from there.
:p

Back on topic, I had my E55 lowered w/ the STAR diagnose and felt no perceptible difference in ride quality. Don't know about the CL65, though.
