Am I crazy?

I need opinions. I bought a used 2005 CL65 AMG 6 months ago and I really do love it. However, I'm feeling a bit unsatisfied because I'm an aggressive driver and the CL is not a sports car. I'm starting to really like the C6 Corvette Z06. I know I'm comparing apples to oranges. The CL is fast, comfortable, refined, but a bit boring. The Z06 is a true sports car and definitely more fun to drive yet the fit and finish has nothing on the CL. I guess I'm asking you guys if you think I'm nuts to get rid of a perfectly good CL65 with 2 years of warranty left to get a Z06?

Yea your nuts for sure!!!!!! I guess I hear what your saying, but I would not make that trade. The ZO6 is a fun sports car to drive, but the CL has much more to it. Maybe a few mods for the CL is in order. I have had mine for about a year now, and am just starting to feel like you, so I'm thinking of doing something to it.

I bought a new 1991 ZR1 back in the day and enjoyed it till the day I sold it 8years later. Having said that there is no way I would trade my CL65 for a Vett. I wont say that your nuts but you do have vett envy. Strange as you have the bigger engine.

Your worst nightmare...
Larry don't tell me this...lol!!! All she needs is the VRP 1000 HP package, heheheh. You have ECU and TCU?, I hear that will make wonders. I plan on doing ECU/ TCU and not to mention bigger turbos...It will be one fast CL I guarantee it.. Just don't get rid of her, too nice of a car.

Believe me I know I'm talking crazy here. With the depreciation of the
CL and only 2 years left of warranty I'm just trying to rationalize why I should get a Corvette. "I have officially hit my mid life crisis"

You've got the itch. Go to Vegas & Rent a ZO6 for the weekend and get it out of your system. You will appreciate the CL afterwards and forget the Vett...what happens in Vegas.....

Fast cars in general....
I perfectly understand what you're saying and that's exactly why I got the ecu/tcu mods on my CL and yet it still feels no where near Z06. A few months ago, I've swapped my viper with my buddy's Z06 for a week and I tell ya that Z06 is no joke. Z06 with some bolt on mods/tuning will give you about 520 at the wheels. And that's what my friend has and it humiliated modded viper(478whp) and M6(476whp). I know they don't have the world class fit and finish and the interior is substandard but when it comes to max performance they are pretty much on the top of the food chain. I love Z06 but I still wouldn't sell the CL for one. If you can do it, just add the Z06. Now a days you can order one for about 65K. And that's exactly what I did.

I have the same option...used CL65 or 08 Z06...my choice is the faster car. But I'm real young and maybe by the time I'm in my early 20's (don't laugh LOL!) I'll go back to a luxo cruiser with a jet engine.

2005 CL65
I have both. My Z06 was featured in GM High Tech Performance magazine back in '06 for a cam/header install.

It will blow the CL into the weeds, but if you have to deal with traffic or less than smooth roads, there really is no comparison.

Now a "regular" C6 Corvette (or the upcoming ZR1) will have Magnetic Select ride, which is far less jiggly than the Z06. Makes the Corvette a far better daily driver, though it will never be a silent cruiser like the CL.

You really need one of each!

Larry you are not crazy at all, you are an enthusiast and from talking to you I can really understand. It doesnt matter how much power a car makes IMO- the car has to be engaging.

Some may love the mash and go qualities along with the detachment that a 65 brings but I grew tired of it rather quickly- it took some cash and some time but I was able to escape

Cash is a bit tight now. I can afford it but I'm trying to be good and actually save a little for retirement. I have two cars now and I think a 3rd would be a bit much at this point in time. Maybe I will however. Thanks for the advice.

I know you truly understand. I absolutely think your 997TT is one of the nicest cars on the road today For me the Z06 is a better bang for the buck at this point plus the performance in not too shabby. If I get one, I'll get the new leather interior package as this really makes the car look much less GM like. Still haven't made my decision. Thanks for the comment.

I own both and agree with France....ZO6!!

I drive the z06 more... Ibought a 2006 with 10k miles for $49k with the 2lz package.... it was a private seller... and I gave him $4k more then the dealer was going to give.....ONE HELL OF A CAR... much more fun and exciting then the CL65... the CL is a Iron fist in the velvet glove... it gets a few looks when people really know what it is...and the torque is great ........the zo6 is a DRIVER'S........and the Z06 the greatest deal on a supercar in history and it gets plenty of looks and plenty of smiles when I drive it......there is no substitute for 500 hp with 3100 lbs. and a 200 mph body to cut through the wind like a SR71

I had the same issue. I owned a CL65 and also have owned late model Corvettes as well as classics.

The CL65 is a great car. Gentlemen's luxo gt....kind of. I wanted something a little sportier and more fun to drive.

I decided to split the difference.

Ended up getting a new CL63. Much more fun to drive, much lighter in the corners. Much better, upgraded electronics and gadgets. Better exhaust note.

You might try test driving the CL63.

I'm kinda in your same boat albeit much less budget, I have a modded reg 2005 c6 auto A4, 410 rwhp 397 rwto & 3.90 gearing, Z06 body panels, Z06 wheel (gearing made HUGE difference!!) blast to drive around town & get tons of looks but ala' regretful on long frwy trips (exhaust droan can bring a grown man to tears) I'm currently selling her & looking for 2004-05 sl600 w/very low mileage then ECU TCU tuning.... then running no mufflers like video--modded sl600.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApBD5YvaHNI Badazzzz

C6/C6 Z06 is like a raw race car (funny my bro in vegas owns C6 Z06 & mine is easily louder, extremely loud (I have Kook's long tube headers, X-pipe, hi-flo cats, etc.. violent acceleration..

Merc is the best of both worlds, I think the sportier looking sl600/65 would be worth a look in your quest..

I have a 2007 Victory Red ZO6 and love the car. It is my 9th Vette so you can say I really like Vettes. Don't drive it much because I enjoy driving my Cl63 or CLS55 more. The Vette gets a lot of looks but so does the CL. I personally think the CLS is one of the best designed autos out there. The CLS55 has chrome 20" Lowenhart LT5s on it and it really attracts a lot of looks but the CL63 is my favorite. Can't seem to get it away from the wife. The CL63 has chrome 20" Modulares on it.
Thinking about selling the ZO6 and getting an 09 SL63. Maybe!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy MB Motoring

that is a tough call. the cl65 is my dream car. i've owned 4 vettes in the past 8 years(98 vert,98 coupe,01 zo6,06 coupe). i currentley own a 2002 cl55 amg & 06 corvette coupe(modded w/ zo6 body, exhaust, wheels) i'm in this delima right now. sell em both and get a modded 05 cl65 or modded 06 zo6. i do get a TON of looks and everyone compliments my vette on the looks and sound. the cL is no slouch in the looks department either. now that i'm older i actually appreciate the safety, comfort, luxury the benz has to offer and with modded 65 you get the best of both worlds, supercar performance/luxery/safety. zo6 with bolt-ons is unbeatable tho.

too tough of a call. have to find a way to aquire both!

My problem is that I'm just a big kid!

I'm kind of a gadget freak and audiophile also. The CL's head unit and stereo sux! I have this vision to get a full leather interior 3LZ package Z06, pull out the head unit, and replace it with a high quality after-market one that has an I-Pod integration, front and back cameras, and a Sirius radio tuner. Of course change out all the speakers and add a nice sub-woofer. Next I would pull off the stock wheels and get some custom ones from 360 Forged. Finally, I would get some either bolt on upgrades or just say F-it and add a supercharger for some sick HP. I guess next comes the 25 y/o girlfriend who works at Hooter.

I could possibly keep my CL65 if I got a used 2006 Z06 as they are getting damn cheap now. Something to think about.
