First dyno. 340 WHP

Not sure I can link to the page here but basically Renntech put the A45 on the dyno and the results were encouraging to say the least.

Talk about being underrated:

You beat me to it KEMA lol! I was about to post the same link. Wow AMG is not playing!
I hope the CLA45 is not detuned in anyway because 340AWHP equates to a little over 400 at the crank. It will be interesting to see what the tuners are able to squeeze out of this motor.

With a 2 liter engine and a turbo already pushing supposedly 26lbs of boost I doubt there is much wiggle room in the tuning world.

Depending on internals, I'm picture a lot of people upgrading to bigger turbos, larger fueling/intake capacity, and if need be the internals themselves to get a lot more power out of these. I don't even want to think about what that would cost.

Needless to say, great numbers for a stock car but I just don't see much improvement without changing out major components.

I believe you're right. I can't wait to see what people are doing with them.

I think I'll probably just remove the cats and call it a day.

Looks like the turbo is more efficient than previously thought ...

Can't wait to see what renntech does with their initial tune just to get an idea of how much room is left in that motor. If the stock motor is making 390hp stock, 351TQ (artificially limited, natural torque much higher) at the engine ... Then it's safe to say it can probably make 420hp/420tq on a decent quality tune. At those levels with sticky upgraded rubber, there's no reason why they can't put down a 3.9 to 60mph with launch control. Probably 12.2 1/4 mile. That's no joke...

So glad I got one on order

^ I hope you mean 420/420bhp and not wheel. Otherwise I fear your expectations may be a little steep.

Still is a mean car, just that stock turbo will not have 420whp in it.

All this power out of a 2.0 liter four cylinder... AMG did well!

Just out of curiosity what is the highest rwhp that Evo 9s, 10s, and even the STIs achieve on the stock turbos? I know this is an entirely new engine, but these were the epitome for 4 cylinder turbo engines prior to the new motor from AMG.

I'd be glad if it can go to 400whp/400ft-lbs with bolt-ons and a tune. But I think that is asking for a bit much.

^ I agree. I'd be surprised for sure though. I wonder if anyone will attempt an E85 tune, that could get you there especially in torque. I know my 1 series takes very kindly to E85.

Some of you need to check out the motor's compression ratio.

I feel like you already know it. And what significance would it have? The E85 comment?

Compression ratio is 8.6:1 which is insanely low by today's standards. Throw some better slugs in around the 10:1 range running e85 and it's a completely different car.

Wow, 8.6:1. Did not expect that. Not a good idea for e85 down there.

Why raise the compression??? E85 isn't readily available at the pumps all around the world. The US is the only country that has it everywhere. Put on a slightly bigger turbo and run pump gas. If you then want to run E85, you'll gain enough power plus still be able to daily drive the car. If you raise the compression too high and you get a bad batch of 91 octane gas, your motor will be toast.

Crank HP obviously, all numbers I stated were crank numbers, the wheels numbers were on dyno sheet in the original post.

I doubt the transmission can handle more than 420hp/TQ with launch control anyways so that's probably the natural safe limit. I think the biggest limiting factor will be the PTUs clutch pack & gears that send power rearward. Above 420crank HP/TQ with launch control and sticky tires... You will be putting a ton of strain on the clutch packs in that PTU (aka transfer case) as its a pretty small light duty unit (to save weight of course).

Sorry, I was stating what I would personally do. Stock 8.6:1 with 26psi on pump is understandable, there need to be safety factors in place.

Raising compression with E85 specifically in a direct injected motor is possible due to the nature of that fuel.

I used to run DSMs in college. I never had a budget like AMG, but I was happy with anything over 250 AWHP from the 2.0L 4G63 with either a 14B or small 16G. I can't imagine this kind of power from two liters- amazing. I feel old..

E85 is pointless. Just stick with 8.6 and 93 octane pump gas. You can run pretty stupid boost with fully forged internals and 8.6 comp ratio. A turbo expert claimed with these specs he thought 35psi may be possible, but I think that's pretty crazy high. At 26 though it will be very reliable. Perhaps 28-30psi is safe, but I personally would never want to put it higher than that.

I’m agree with you. As per my experience A45 AMG is much better than the CLAs they had in the car park.

Coming from 2 Evos and an STi ... I wonder how much turbo lag the CLA has. Need to see a torque curve vs. RPM dyno graph.

I personally could not stand my Evo/Sti's in hot weather with the AC blasting...the cars just had zero grunt off the line and felt like they lost 200whp lol. The more power you make on a 2.0 the more lag you get, naturally, but I wonder if and how AMG has possibly alleviated this.
