I wouldn't expect to fail that soon. The turbos are high quality Borg Warner ball bearing.

Absolutely! That goes for any new engine really, if you drive it fresh off the lot and immediately start using race start before the pistons rings and seals have proper time to set, could be harmful.

However, AMG dyno test each engine; watch the following YouTube movie from Afalterback where they dyno the M133 engine….looks to me that they already break it in at the factory!! AMG engineers know what they are doing, why you pay so much for these cars. I trust the Germans, only reason why I buy German cars now

I have an A45 AMG and it was recently recalled for a turbo check. All was said to be OK. However when picked up from dealers it does not perform or sound the same. They say all diagnostics OK but I know it is different so we are discussing. Any views?

Sounds similar to what occurring to my CLA but mine failed the turbo recall. Basically my turbo has been under powered, making weird noises etc etc lately. They did a diagnostics check at the dealership and they said that the system shows that everything's fine. I decided to talk to the head mechanic at the dealership and he possibly said that the turbo feels weaker and making weird sounds cause the oil lines or whatever that were checked in the recall might have expanded even further. So lucky for me I'm getting my turbo replaced today due to the recall so hopefully my two new issues which are coming from the turbo might go away. Either way I'll still be looking to get a new car etc. (I've already had 7-8 issues with my car. P.s yes I'm superjak95 from the mercedescla forum if anyone read my "wonderful" thread on there")

Thanks for reply. Dealer very slow to agreeing there is a problem. Trying to get him to see another car to see the difference. Not sure where I will need to go if he does not help me.

Ya getting the dealer to admit to a problem can be difficult especially when it's based off sound. The reason for it is that the dealers don't drive the car on a daily basis so they don't know the usual sounds etc. So my dealer didn't really admit that there's a problem they just said that the fuel like could possibly be causing the noise. Luckily I was already on the recall lost so I'm already getting the turbo replaced either way so I don't have to fight them to replace it. Hopefully your dealer notices the issue and admits to it and helps you out. If they don't then I can only recommend contacting mb directly. Might not help much as it didn't in my case but it's better then nothing

I just got my 45 AMG back from the dealer for some warranty work and while there, they notified me there was a recall on the turbocharger for the 45….took the dealer 3 hours to take the turbo apart and check to see if turbocharger was "in spec," mine said "0.03 mm, in spec" ??? I assume this is referring to play in the shaft? I haven't noticed anything strange, I would assume if something was wrong you would notice a loss in power and blue smoke out the exhaust?

Please keep the comments coming!! My dealer said this would be an expensive part to replace; $5000K+ so if something is wrong would rather it happen during warranty.

got my car back it feels like there is more power and better response out of the turbo and i can here the turbo spool up more then before. MB did a real nice job on the car my two front rims where beat up from my girl driving the car but now they look brand new. Now i just have to put all my modz back in.

So I also got my turbo replaced although on Monday. I agree on the increased power, and better response from the new turbo. Also ya it does spool up more. It also fixed all the new issues that I've had so I'm quite happy. Although one concerning thing is that when I took the car for the oil line turbo recall my car had a thing of 0.89 mm. A couple days later when the turbo was replaced it moved up to 1.11mm (The old turbo moved up to 1.11mm from .89mm . Have no idea what the lines are at on the new turbo but everything feels better then perfect). Slightly concerning that the oil line could have loosened so much in just a few days.

I meant that the oil lines in my old turbo drastically changed by the time it was changed. I'll edit my last post to make it more clear

Has anyone experienced if the turbo shaft play is wearing out over time i.e. increasing bearing clearance over time? This would be more of a concern to me in a short time as that could be a metallurgical issue.

Mine went from 0.089 to .11 within 4 days. So it's possible

they measure the "play" in the turbo shaft. if it is .08 or higher they replace it.

mine also was .03

----

for the guy that went from .089 to .11 - how do you know this ? did they let you drive the car after they tested it and it came back over .08?

a few people on here ive read they hold your car until they can replace it....

did your turbo blow at .11 ?
