Possibly buying CLA this week. Question on negotiating w/MB dealer

Hey guys, I've never purchased a "luxury brand" before and I wanted to know if negotiating is any different. If they would even negotiate at all for that matter. I'm certainly not interested in snobby salesmen. I am going to trade in my 2014 Mustang GT that's been problematic and I plan on simply buying the CLA outright with cash. Since the Mustang was paid in full I don't think I'd have to shell out more than a few grand.

Is dealing with a prestige brand any different than an American brand and if so what should I expect? I'm going to get the AMG sport package, the Headlight upgrade and the Becker Nav and wiring, which should bring it to roughly $34,000. Can I expect to get it for $32,000 in the least or pay sticker? If this was an American brand I'd expect to get it within invoice which is $27,500 for the CLA not including add-ons. Thanks for any advice.

I went and traded in a 2000 4Runner last year and was pleasantly surprsied with how the MB dealer treated me considering I am not the typical customer. I negotiated a $41k msrp to 36, got them to come up on my trade in value, and got them to throw in free maintenance for 3 years.

Just be firm but polite and if you are ready to make a deal today, they will do everything they can to make that happen. Always be willing to walk away from the table and play hardball. I will say I had a VW dealer come down from an outrageous $600 per month lease quote all the way to a $299 quote on a loaded CC with additional miles because I simply started walking out the door at closing time. I'm not sure how likely MB is to bend on the CLA right now with demand high and supply ramping up, but my experience with MB was a good one.

If you can wait a few months, you'll likely get a better deal. the first batch of CLA's are likely already sold. Several dealers I spoke to said their first batch are all customer orders, so they can't let you test drive it.

I was able to get a good test drive on Saturday. It was busy so I didn't get a chance to talk about numbers. Will come in this week and will give you some info on what we can realistically get for now. Even though its new, its still a volume car so it should still be negotiable in my opinion.

I would seriously doubt you will a get any discounts on the CLA's at this stage of the game - reason being:

1) new model intro
2) lack of units available
3) high demand

Only way to get discount is you've bought from the dealership before or USAA has some kind of guarantee pricing for members.

It was really fun to drive. I'm not a big HP fanatic, so the power was good enough for me. The handling was great. The steering was a little light but it was still satisfying for me. Only issue is the rear seat headroom and visibility but it is large enough to accommodate adults. I enjoyed it a little more than the 328xi.

I didn't get a chance to go back to the dealer i test drove from today, but I spoke to a few other dealers and it seems like a discount may not be possible like the post mentions above. In that case I might hold out for a little. Id hate to pay full price. I hope to get 2,000 off sticker of 38-39ooo.

So the best they can do in north/central nj is $1,000 american medical association or any similar discount. Discounts cannot be combined and No cash discounts even in those on order for December. I also got practically nothing for my trade. Nonetheless I still might get the car ordered for december only reservations are only summer tires available for the sport package. Its not like this is a real sports car. That makes this car less practical for me because I have to buy winter or all seasons and go through the hassle of changing tires.

Wow, that makes no sense that they would put summer tires on standard. I drive a '14 Mustang GT with 420hp and I don't even have summer tires. You're right, they should have all seasons like every other manufacturer. I live in the Philly suburbs so I'm close to you, I understand the need for all seasons. Unfortunately, I'm not a doctor. I assume you are? At least you can use that for the nonexistent discount. I'm going through MB of West Chester, PA. I'm also going to check out Cherry Hill MB. Did you ask if you could add all seasons for a fee? In my opinion having the AMG sport package is essential, it makes the car.

The poster above said they are trying to charge a few k over the MSRP. I would rather wait then pay over MSRP. Paying MSRP is painful enough. I plan on going up this Saturday.

That's absurd. Wait, it's not worth it. I'm going on Saturday, I'll report back my driving impression and the price. Have you thought of buying in a bordering state or another dealership?

Edit: I just realized you may not be lucky enough to live in a tristate area like me. I like in Philly so I literally can drive 20 mins in either direction and hit DE or NJ and MD in 40

just received an email from another dealer, 30mins away. He said he has 2 for demo and test drive. 10 more are coming in next week. I'm going there on Fri to check it out. hope it works out this time. Still want a small car for city traffic.

For all you noobies - if you settle down & not be such early adopters - you can save a lot of bucks.

No1 is giving you any discounts - for reasons I stated above - until the hype dies down & more units are shipped next year.

Don't be such car buying virgins.

ps - MBUSA usually has great year incentives that they pass onto customers...but I've been told not on this car or new intro. makes sense.

They said putting all seasons on the sport package is not possible. I would have to buy all seasons separately then have them mounted on. That coupled with no "cash" discounts might be a deal breaker for now. I think I'll just wait until the demand slows down.

^^^^ Agree, or wait. It is possible that USAA, the ABA or AMA may have discounts soon there are none at the moment. I would add that the margins are very different from other Mercs.
