Yep, same here. They told me that, didn’t want to believe it

He believes that the C63 SE is simply ahead of its time and as other manufacturers catch up, it will eventually be popular. I also think he is delusional, but on the other hand as younger generations come along who never owned a V8 AMG, they don't know what they are missing. I didn't hate driving the new C63, but I didn't like it either. It's fast, but that doesn't do much for me if the rest of the car isn't there. The transmission shifts delayed in manual mode, you can feel the almost 4500 lbs, and the complicated nature of the powertrain is always in your face. I haven't missed the power and speed of the new C63 a single time since I got back from Germany and driving my C205 again. The C205 is just so much more engaging and special to drive, but for somebody who never owned one, they won't know it. I guess he's banking on a completely new breed of customers.

cars are too fast already (for public enjoyment), what keeps an enthusiast entertained for more than 5 minutes is the character and charm of a car. what 5/10 feels like putzing around

Exactly. Don't know why they don't get that.

Absolutely. Chasing Tesla was a race to the bottom of the brain stem. It’s sad to see the historical restraint automakers like BMW M used to demonstrate thrown aside as they chase after stats instead of crafting cars that feel great to drive. I’ll never forget the feel of the older AMGs and older M cars. That said there are still special things about M and AMG today … an I4 hybrid is not one of them - it’s a deeply flawed vehicle.

If that's the case, where's the charging port

If this is actually true good luck MB/AMG they're setting themselves up yet again for another new model sales failure and all of the other negative fallout for the company

They may have simply gotten rid of it. Nobody really plugs these things in. The battery is a small 6 kwh and charges just from driving. You can literally start a lap in Race mode with an empty battery and the battery is full at the end of the lap for example. The 12 miles electric range it has or whatever little it is, isn't gonna motivate anyone to drive around in EL mode other than perhaps pulling out of their neighborhood w/o anybody noticing.

Smartest thing I’ve read all day. Literally no need for a plug on a PHEV with such a small battery. It shouldn’t even be called a PHEV, must be for tax benefit or some legislative requirement.

Interesting, the CLE 53 looks like a way better buy now.

I guess since they spent so much money on R&D for the M139 E Performance drivetrain they want to get some ROI by putting it in the CLE 63.... if that thing sells that is.

I guess it is nice to not wake up the neighbours in the morning... but I mean... the C 63 S E Performance isn't really loud anyways .... in comfort at least.

coming from someone that hears the biturbo V8 everyday, I completely disagree. The wind noise would not be the primary sound in this video if it were the v8.

Yeah, gotta have to disappoint you there, too. That's the speaker enhanced 4-cylinder idle. That's the one thing I noticed when I was standing behind an idling C63 SE last month. It has a deep sounding idle. As I said in my impressions thread, the C63 SE sounded better than expected, but it's artificially enhanced with speakers.

I completely agree and it's also what I've stated numerous times, I'm totally convinced until the actual reveal shows otherwise the CLE63 has a V8.
Shame none of those car paparazzi peeps didn't sneak in a quick look underneath it whilst stationary and parked for some time to try spot the obvious exhausts.

Could be wrong but many other factors involved as well, eg. it'll be a low sales volume variant and will not affect the companies total carbon footprint and on that note it'll be Euro 7 compliant anyway.
Also we all know the W205 C63 could've been fitted with a V8 if they voted to go that way and the larger volume sales of that model would still fit into allowable carbon emissions total but they decided on the electrification path more so to prep for a full EV future.
Absence of charging port is definitely a sign that there's no P3 drivetrain, they would not develop a non charge port derivative on only a low volume one models sub variant, if there's no V8 it's an I6.

I6 is good but at that point unless you really need the extra power, I don't see why anyone would not just go with the CLE 53.

I actually listened to the new c63 sound in person and it sounds nothing like this. Who knows. For now i’m going with v8 until official release

Once again have to agree with you.
Should have mentioned it before I've also inspected the W205 C63 IRL and had a good listen to it (stationary only could not drive it) and the sound it made is not the same.
Could be IRL is different to vids as can only hear the CLE63 in vids but the C63's exhaust thrum to my ears sounded more like an old WRX 4 pot boxer with a modified exhaust than a V8.
Or could be the external sound bar or whatever it is they're using is different from the W205 C63.
Could end up being disappointed but still hoping

Makes sense, if the CLE63 is fitted with another iteration of I6, it would have to offer more than just a power bump over the 53 to be worth the extra spend.
