Dynamic package

You all did it! After 25 years of being devoted to Audi and Porsche, the CLE 53 caught my eye, and for the first time, I found myself wanting a Mercedes. I’ve always respected the brand, but I never felt the urge to step outside the Audi/Porsche family.

I’ve narrowed it down to two specific CLE 53s: one with the dynamic handling package (DHP) and one without. Currently, I drive a fully loaded 2020 S7 that replaced the air suspension with damper-controlled steel coils.

I know opinions vary, but is the DHP essential or just nice to have? I don’t track my cars or use launch control, but I do enjoy a well-handling vehicle for spirited drives in the countryside. Comfort for longer drives is also a priority for me.

I’m really torn here.

What are the pros and cons of the DHP? If I choose not to get it, will I end up regretting that decision?

Thanks, everyone! I’m excited to join the MB community after all these years.

I would get it given the weight of the CLE 53, any improvement to the handling is a bonus.

If I was ordering the car I would have taken the package. I bought off the lot and the one I got didn’t have it. I preferred the interior color with yellow accents and wanted the pinnacle package which the other car on the lot did not have. Without DHP I can’t say I feel like I’m missing out. But weigh each of the options you get with the package.

The red calipers are nicer looking probably with every color so that’s a plus.

You get race mode and drift modes. If you said you don’t track race mode may not be a big deal. If you got money to burn on tires then drift mode could be fun but imagine you won’t use it either unless you’re at a closed track.

Dynamic engine mounts. Very cool concept. But not sure you will even notice it unless you’re on a closed track and comparing cars side by side and can only measure the advantage in tenths of a second. I imagine this feature won’t be noticed on the weight of this car.

I bought my CLE 53 from the order list off the lot as it was 98% to my specs.
It did not include the DHP, however I will not be tracking mine either.
Having the red calipers would have been nice, but not worth the extra cost option.
As it is, this coupe, with the all wheel drive handles very well considering the 4250 lbs.+ weight.
Good luck,
LTBM

Bringing this thread alive again, but had a question for those without the package -- Without the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS Package are you still able to do launch control?

No , race start is part of race mode and you wont have launch controll w/o it.

Also it comes with a little bit smaller brakes that are 4 pistons , while red brakes are 6 pistons. For me this package is must have.

From my perspective as a novice, there are a couple of potential downsides to the Dynamic package that stand out. One concern is the independent engine mounts. While they can offer advantages in terms of performance and handling, they also present a higher risk of failure down the road. These mounts are under significant stress, and over time, they can wear out more quickly than traditional mounts, leading to potential maintenance issues and higher costs.

Another point of consideration is the 6-piston brake setup. While many enthusiasts would assume that more pistons always translate to better braking performance, the reality is a bit more nuanced. The added pistons in a 6-piston system are positioned in areas that can introduce additional stress on key points of the braking system. In particular, these extra pistons are placed closer to the center of the brake caliper, which can result in uneven pressure distribution and increased risk of brake system fatigue over time. A 4-piston setup tends to offer a more balanced and less stressed design, which can lead to better long-term durability and reliability, especially for everyday driving or extended use.

That said, I understand the appeal of the Dynamic package. The added performance features, particularly the 6-piston brakes, are attractive for those who prioritize track-ready capabilities or high-performance driving. While I personally don’t feel the need for this package, I can see why others might find it highly desirable for the added thrill and performance enhancements it offers.

I don’t think this is accurate unless I’m reading it wrong. I don’t have the dynamic package and I certainly do have launch control.

I prefer the idea of the dynamic package but I bought off kit and it didn’t have it. That being said I don’t find it to be a must have. Nicer perhaps but not something you’re gonna really notice unless pushing car to limits on the track regularly.

Oh interesting! You have the CLE53 with no dynamic package but you can use launch control?

The description of the Dynamic Plus package is woefully inadequate, certainly relative to the brake upgrade. As previously noted “Red Brake Calipers” misses the fact that they are larger six-piston versions working against composite brake rotors (that are also larger). Larger pads and increased rotor diameter provide greater swept area with all its fundamental benefits. Not certain of the possible unsprung weight reduction offered by the composite construction, it likely helps offset that of the larger calipers and rotor diameter.

At $2000 USD this option should be seriously considered. Given the weight of the CLE 53 it deserves the additional stopping power.

Details given on this earlier thread:https://mbworld.org/forums/cle-class...king-news.html

How do you activate launch control without the dynamic package?

Correct.

I just put it on sport or sport+. Smash the brake and hold. Smash the gas and hold. Release brake and enjoy the fun. I can’t remember if you need to turn off traction control or not but I assure you it works.

The procedure you describe is in the CLE owners manual. I don’t think it’s “race start” or launch control that is part of the dynamic package though.

100% you dont have launch controll , all you can do is to press break and then release , but it is not "real" launch control .

That way , you can "launch" even a skoda 1.6 tdi , holding your break and throtle but it is not launch controll mate. It wont be much quicker but for sure it is not putting so much strain on gearbox as just holding break + gas

This is how Launch controll looks like :

Thats what I was thinking too, that maybe he was referring to brake boosting.

I ordered the DP+ pkg for the red brake calipers and dynamic engine mounts, doubt we'll ever use race mode.

^ Edit to above post...the composite front rotors are a big plus, hoping they produce near 0 dust and eliminate any potential squeal.

This 240 min time limit to edit a post is annoying.

I acutally use race mode quite a lot when having fun on twisty roads , and I can confirm the breakes produces very low dust , but there is some squeeking in first 2000 km , then it stopped.

That's good news that they produce very little dust as the iron AMG brakes are a dust storm. Hoping ours don't squeak at all, did yours squeal from day one?

Yes it was noisy since day 1 , when you break at slow speeds , it stopped after some time (like 2k maybe 3k km)

Yeah I even started that topic https://mbworld.org/forums/cle-class...ack-cle53.html

It has gone silent by itself after around 5000 KM , I`m not sure if this is good or bad but its gone . No additional issue regarding this and I have 20 000 km on the car already.
