Rear Headrests

Is there a way to drop the rear headrests to increase visibility? I can’t seem to find a way to do it on my CLE 53

Drop them not that I know of. Remove them yes. As I remember you have to fold the seats down to provide room to push the button and pull the head rest all the way out.

You may be able to remove them on a Coupe but on my convertible, I dropped one of the rear seats and didn't see anything that would make me think that the headrest is removeable.

On the coupe there is a semi-circle button at the base of the headrest where the chrome shaft enters the seat. One on each of the two chrome shafts. Press to raise lower and if you pull far enough they come out at least on the coupe.

After looking into it, the coupe and convertible have completely different headrests. The convertible are not moveable or removeable, and are even larger more annoying than the coupe headrests. I think I read that they are considered a sort of "roll bar" on the convertible. Should the car roll over with the top down, or even with it up, being a soft top, it would protect the passengers, especially anyone in the back seat.

Yes, there is way. I have them out of my cabrio. The real visibility is much improved. The instructions are in the owner's manual. They are in there very tightly so you may need two people, one to pull on the headrests and the other to keep pressing the tab which is accessed through the trunk.

This is what I found in the manual. Any chance you could take a picture of what the rear seats look like without the headrests and post it here?

Here are some before and after pictures. If I'm going to keep them off, I need to find something to cover the holes that were under the headrests

Did you figure out how to cover the hole? I want to take the rear headrest out too. I took them out yesterday, and put them back again since the hole is too unsightly.

I looked at a ton of options, I could not find anything that's perfect so I decided to buy some leather repair tape on Amazon and cut it to cover the holes. Does it look perfect, no, does it cover holes, yes. I will continue to look for a better options but for now, it does the job and I like the car without the rear headrests as the view out the rear window is a million percent better and I haven't, and don't plan on ever having anyone in the rear seat. Maybe I will at some point, but they just won't have a headrest.... Something more stiff/rigid would be better as you won't see the indentations, but like I said, I haven't found anything that like that as of the moment.

Excellent, I also removed my 2025 AMG CLE 53 cabrio rear headrests. Covered it with black scotch tape while looking for a more elegant solution.
Cheers

Took them out yesterday.

I took the rear headrests out yesterday. Wow. Much better rear view. I was searching to fill the holes for many hours, and found these. Ordered from Amazon, and will post again after receiving these. Now searching again to fill the square hole in the middle.

Do you have a link to these?
Which size do you think fits the holes?

I will find out for sure on Sunday. Searched on Amazon.
Amazon.com: 76 Pcs Rubber Stoppers in Five Hole Plug Sizes, Various Sizes of Round Hole Silicone Tool, Rubber Plugs for Round Holes, Silicone Plugs Suitable for Car Wiring Furniture : Tools & Home Improvement Amazon.com: 76 Pcs Rubber Stoppers in Five Hole Plug Sizes, Various Sizes of Round Hole Silicone Tool, Rubber Plugs for Round Holes, Silicone Plugs Suitable for Car Wiring Furniture : Tools & Home Improvement

I am thinking 13mm or 10mm will fit the round holes.
